I had some of my kind IG community express worry about me being so close to the giraffes. I might look like a silly mzumba walking into danger but I was with an amazing Masai guide, Sabore, who knew what was up. He grew up on the land and received university training in Masai culture and history.

Giraffes are very gentle and will kick if attacked or startled. When you approach them slowly where they can see you they’ll just run away if you get too close. It was fun to see them keep their distance but stare at me with curiosity.

Sabore and I shared a love for plants and he generously taught me about the plants and their medicinal uses. It was so wonderful to connect.

I get to do the work I love, then connect to the land, animals, plants, people and beauty. Somehow the place I’m staying at has a chef and she knows vegan food. Creates amazing dishes every day so I don’t have to worry about supplementing with protein powders. It blows my mind how perfectly this experience matches who I am! So grateful.
