As we head towards the end of 2024’s autism awareness & acceptance month, I wanted to re-introduce myself here. Teaching children, mentoring & inspiring teachers, & helping people has always been my passion & motivation from as long as I could remember. I come from a long line of helpers. My maternal great grandparents owned and operated an institute for the blind back in their home country of Armenia - helping the blind learn Braille and various vocational skills (while employing them at the institute as well). My maternal grandmother and her sister worked as preschool and Kindergarten teachers. My mother also helped dozens of people find their footing in life & often became the sole caretaker to various elderly individuals when no one else would. To say I have the helping gene in my blood would be an understatement.

20 years ago when I worked with my first student with autism at UCLA’s Early Childhood Partial Hospitalization Program (now known as KidsConnect) , I knew this path was for me (even though I had interests in aerospace). At the time, I had 0 personal connections to autism. I just knew children with autism were amazing humans & I wanted to help them find their voice. Even though the undiscovered universe spiked my interest, hearing a child say their first word (after hours of intervention) is unmatched. In 2019, autism became personal when my goddaughter received her diagnosis.

After learning what quality early education & ABA looked like while studying at Vanderbilt & then gaining valuable experience of what worked & didn’t work in the ABA & Special Education fields, I knew I wanted to develop a special space incorporating the worlds of ABA, special education, and early childhood intervention. In 2016 I founded Behavior Trend. The same compassion & motivation I have is something I look for when bringing on therapists to our practice.
