✨MS. HENSION IS BLACK HISTORY✨

Let's shine a light on Tarji P. Henson, an incredible inspiration and the founder of the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the mental health of Black people.
Recently she was interviewed by on the . Her answers to Angie’s questions were surprising to many, especially when Angie asked if she was happy. She said she isn’t.
It’s so easy to look at the wealth, glitz and glamour of celebrities and forget that they are human. They struggle with sadness, trauma and anxiety just like we do.
Taraji also said “no one posts their pain.” How true is that?! We all post our life’s highlights, showcasing what’s beautiful and successful. It feels good to show that we’re doing well, even if it’s not the full picture.
Especially because of the hearts and likes those posts receive. Did you know that each time you see a like or positive comment on a post, your brain gives you a little “hit” of a feel good chemical called dopamine? That’s part of what makes social media so addictive.
Taraji and Angie spoke about this too. They discussed how harmful social media can be, because it breeds comparison and the need for constant validation from clicks and likes.
I’m not saying get off social, that’s certainly not the answer. What I am saying is “real” validation is an inside job — You can validate You. Validation from others means they can give it and take whenever they feel like it. So your feelings are in their hands. Trust me, you don’t want that. 😉
Thank you Taraji for all of your work to support Black people’s mental health and for being honest and authentic about your pain. You are Black History.

✨ A SELF LOVE TALK 🗣

We all know how important it is to love others. As women we often live our lives in service of the people we care about the most, whether that means sending our mother flowers on her birthday or volunteering at a homeless shelter.

But do we treat ourselves with the same kindness and generosity? Do we speak to ourselves the same way we talk to our friends, family and colleagues, offering the same encouragement, positive affirmations and praise?
If you’re like me and the rest of the women on the planet, the answer is probably nope, or not nearly enough. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can be deliberate about self-love and celebrating our own victories, just like we do someone else’s.
If self-love feels uncomfortable, start small, begin with something simple.

Each day take a moment to tell yourself how proud you are for making another healthy meal, or getting a difficult project done ahead of schedule.
Maybe you'll make it a regular practice to say "I love you" when you pass a mirror, or see your reflection in the window. Or you can take a page out of the actress Jennifer Lewis’ book 😂.
It can be anything that works for you — as long as you make time to “love on you.” The bonus is, if you do it, others will learn to do it too!

✨YOU DESERVE GOOD LOVE✨
You're worthy of healthy love and relationships. I mean the kind of love Whitney was singing about in “You Give Good Love.” 🎶
You deserve to be treated with love, empathy and appreciation by your family, loved ones and everyone in between, whether it’s Valentine’s Day or any other day of the year. ❤️
