New Report! The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) has released its quarterly "IHSS+ Home Care Integration Training Interim Report," which provides results of a caregiver training program.

Over a 9-year partnership, CCA, L.A. Care Health Plan, and SEIU Local 2015 have developed a team of home caregivers who use their training to enhance the health and well-being of their care recipients, who are L.A. Care Health Plan members.

Here is what an L.A. Care member said about the benefit of this training:

“The most important thing my caregiver learned in this training was how to provide care safely, respectfully, and with greater awareness of my individual needs. The training emphasized communication, patience, and proper techniques to support my daily activities.”

Read our report summary:

Since 2017, CCA has trained 8,680 IHSS providers in six languages through a caregiver training partnership with L.A. Care and SEIU 2015.

Jennifer is an IHSS caregiver in Los Angeles providing care for an L.A. Care Health Plan member. She completed a free caregiver training course offered by the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) in partnership with L.A. Care.

Thanks to new knowledge she gained about how to recognize signs of a stroke, Jennifer was able to take action that saved her sister's life.

“If it wasn’t for the caregiver training that I received at CCA, I don’t think I would have recognized the signs of a stroke,” she said. “My instincts told me something was wrong, but the training gave me the tools to understand what I was seeing and how I needed to act on it.”

We are happy to share this post from the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center in recognition of caregiver Deidra Gossett, winner of the "Family Caregiver of the Year Award." The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) presented this award to Deidra at our first-ever caregiver awards event on March 20, 2026. Congrats, Deidra! Read more about the awards here: https://advancecaregivers.org/california-caregiver-of-the-year-awards/

We are proud to share that one of our caregivers, Deidra, was recognized on March 20, 2026, as the Center For Caregiver Advancement’s Family Caregiver of the Year.

This award recognizes an unpaid family caregiver who provides exceptional in-home support to a loved one. Deidra’s commitment to her mother reflects both her dedication and her ability to navigate the complexities of caregiving with thoughtfulness and care.

Through her participation in the USC Family Caregiver Support Center—including the Adult Children Caregiver Support Group, Stress-Busting Series, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Skill-Building Program—and with support from her Family Consultant, Angie, Deidra continues to strengthen her caregiving approach while supporting her family.

In her acceptance speech, she shared a message that resonates across the field of family caregiving: “If you are a caregiver, please know that what you do matters. Your dedication makes a difference, and you are not alone in this journey.”

We congratulate Deidra on this well-deserved recognition and are honored to be part of her caregiving journey.
