The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) congratulates our most recent caregiver graduates who care for members of the L.A. Care Health Plan.🎓

🌟Nearly 400 students just completed an intense 10-week course in IHSS Caregiving Essentials. They gained skills in infection control, using proper body mechanics, CPR, First Aid, and more to help their care recipients enjoy better health at home.

CCA developed this curriculum around person-centered caregiving. 🫶🏽

Research studies show that training caregivers helps to:

➡️Improve the health of care recipients (consumers)
➡️Increase consumer satisfaction with home care by 40%
➡️Increase consumer adherence to care plans by 35%
➡️Reduce unnecessary ER visits by 25%
➡️Reduce hospital readmissions by 30%
➡️Reduce complications from chronic illness by 20%

✨CCA offers our "Caregiving Essentials" course through partnerships with L.A. Care Health Plan & SEIU Local 2015. Together, we are helping caregivers level-up their skills to keep our Los Angeles communities healthier, with less reliance on hospital visits for improved quality of life!

Caregivers, are you taking time for self-care? We know that caregivers rarely have time for themselves. 💖

We're encouraging you to take a short "pause" wherever you can fit it in! Grab a few minutes for yourself every day to help prevent burnout & reduce stress, especially during the busy holiday season.

💙You cannot provide quality care for others if you don't take care of yourself first! 💙

In CCA's popular "Caregiving Essentials" course, we devote a module to teaching caregivers about the importance of self-care to reduce stress and maintain short- and long-term health and well-being.

Our instructors provide self-care tips and discuss strategies for recognizing burnout and reducing your caregiver stress.

The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) extends our deepest gratitude to the distinguished partners who joined us for our End-of-Year Event on December 8, 2025. 🙏✨

Our guest panelists led dynamic conversations on the value of caregiver training, worker power, and the policy issues shaping the future of caregiving. Their insights will guide and strengthen our work as we head into 2026. 💪🏽📚

A heartfelt thank-you to our exceptional panelists for sharing their expertise and experience:

🌟 Dr. Sameer Amin, Chief Medical Officer, L.A. Care Health Plan
🌟 Jarmin Yeh, PhD, Associate Professor, UCSF
🌟 Abby Snay, Deputy Secretary, California Labor & Workforce Development Agency
🌟 Sergio Donis, Statewide Field Director, SEIU Local 2015
🌟 Amanda Steel, Deputy Policy Director, SEIU Local 2015
🌟 Ericka Ochoa, Private Sector Coordinator, SEIU Local 2015
🌟 Julianne Williams, MPH, Certified Grief Counselor

During the discussion about how caregiver training can help fill gaps in health care, Dr. Amin emphasized that because our healthcare system is complex, along with other skills, caregivers should be trained in...
"...how to access the different resources and programs that may help their care recipients. It is the joint responsibility of training providers and healthcare program providers to help caregivers navigate this to coordinate care.”

Professor Jarmin Yeh highlighted the complexity of the caregiving role itself, adding, "There is this misconception that caregiving is low-skill work when it is complex work!"

We look forward to strengthening our partnerships and driving meaningful change together in 2026. 🌱🤝
