🪶 Honoring the Kiowa Tribe 🪶
Today, we take a moment to honor and celebrate the Kiowa Tribe — a Plains Indigenous Nation known for their powerful traditions, artistry, and warrior spirit.
Originating in what is now Montana, the Kiowa migrated south in the 1700s and became closely associated with the Southern Plains, including present-day Oklahoma and Texas.
✨ Fun Facts about the Kiowa:
📜 They are master storytellers and historians, keeping oral history alive through generations with rich mythologies and songs.
🎨 Known for ledger art, which adapted traditional pictographic art into narrative drawings on paper and cloth.
🎪 The Sun Dance and Gourd Dance are central to their ceremonial life, symbolizing renewal, strength, and community.
🐎 In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Kiowa were expert horsemen and fierce protectors of their lands and lifeways.
We honor their resilience, their culture, and the continued contributions they make to Indigenous identity and American history.
🌾 May we listen, learn, and uplift Native voices, not just today, but every day.
