It's been a busy year, our house is vvery secure and it's home, a sanctuary away from the madding crowd, a respite from the rigors of the day, Once we enter the gate and the house the outside world is just that, peace and serenity, good feeling tone, there is a pulse to the house and it's inhabitants, we live our lives outside, here it is peace, There is enough room, 4100 sq ft, ample room for up to 6 men, There is currently one room vacant, great washer and dryer, wi fi dish network galore, two kitchens, 4 refrigerators ample cupboard space, 4 bathrooms congenial .atmosphere yet not intrusive, I have a full time housekeep who takes care of me and the great areas of the house. There is a Sexton who takes care of the heat and air and opening and closing of windows distributes the mail, and fastidously. This is Sanctuary, Good living, 4 bathrooms, Upgrading constantly, single rooms only and it is not coed. Closed house no suprises, easy going and sweet. at present there are over 100 years of sobriety under this roof. This home it on the up and up. I live here and cherish my serenity.

Happy New Year
2018 is off to a good start
We rung in the New Year and sang Auld Lang Syne
I have been extra busy with my activities in my sober group, who knew (I didn'nt) where being of ultimate service would take me.
2017 was a year of personal growth, I was carried through it and have earned a few close and personal friends, and I continue to stay in the action, while putting my all into my sobreity, and in the acceptance and recognition of learning who I truly am, I am happy to say, it's worth every seoond of the time put in so far I cannot say that I have been over paid, I am not in this to get paid, I am in this to stay sober and not go to where I havd sunk to, it was pretty bad and few stories rival mine. Most of all I got the opportunity to know all kinds of people, and on a grand scale, teh difference of being part of 200 or so people and being in the swim with 2000 people opened my eyes to things I had not ever thought nor taken notice of. The man who brought me in, I just learned who he is from my past. My first true sponsor, the man who took me by the shoulder and grounded me is a tremendous statesman, he has to be from his experience (very few have the same nor the depth) and his devotion to AA is significant. My current sponsor who is gentle enough to understand me and to listen and not micromanage or change me, who comes through in the clinches he lets me come to my own and in his years of experience has the wherewithal to correct course. The insight navigate me when im close to the rocks and the joy for me when things are sailing smoothly.
CHSL runs like a well oiled machine, I have heard that said many times its not my description. When in 2011 Ihad to make a descision, when I was in confuddlement. I took it my ideal of what I wanted this place to be, to live easy here to as before create the atmosphere of family, to ot take in tough cases off of the merry go round as its not so merry to me to see those that go from program to program to hospital to hospital as their way of life, its upsetting to a house to work with this constantly, when John was alive we could do ti meor me I much prefer to h=not bring that drama in, and to those men here and ther eis little change over yes it is a sober living house, sthere is a standard contract and rule to follow. All of these things re perfectly in line with living sober , we are a closed house, that means we do not invinte guests in, (I do but I claim it as owners perogative) What I promise and keep it is that once inside the gates of this house, my house, the outside world stops. Quietude and sanctuary rule. there is a tenure to the air, a grace most present. and I strive to maintain that balance. An anology goes like this, its like living at home in a home of adults, its a strength a rock of solidarity to know your going home to sobriety that there is no room here for twilling and billing and hoisting and rudderick of using and ringking, we are sober and thie house retains its even keel, Men from boys who want the standards of life. and are done with the party, (secret I do party hearty with my fellows of group we whoop it up fairly often) you know who you are and in a group outing where there are a few hundred of us its easy to find where I fit. . Same realm of spirit moments like the mornings in the quiet and when Yolanda is here ( she was on disability for almost a year so glad she is here it will take a while to get back to normal order, we all talk to her and catch up our lives we share our jprogress and accomplishments and hopes and direction, often check in with her and each in our own time slot although there is mirth broadcast when two or three in the back kitchen and pantry are conversing and its like a song a psalm, and I hear it from my seat at the helf mto refashion the house , I used my recources to do it and keep the census at 3 men, when capacity was more, it used to be 10 men and sometimes it swelled to 15 and eighteen once, those times no longer exist, it's been one man to a room since the change and while I had open rooms unoccupied rooms, I was adamant in maintaining my wish for to be filled with deservig souls that are doing the do and making a life. CHSL took root when it was time to go past eh luxury of Andrew John and I paddling around this and living in 4100 sq ft, with occasional room use fo rfriends in town., , men i its been a great past year to me the number 18 signifies life. 2018 Im ready for all that you have in store and I do it with full heart,
Now aabout the house, one of our good fellows reached his two year mark and it was time for him to get into action and make a move to a new way of life, he was always a pleasure to see in the house and grounds, I had my suspicions when he was accumulating new furniture, I saw the boxes and furniture began to show up in the garage. he as was his habit here let me know that he would be moving n 30 days, and that s great to know , I told him I was glad to refund his complete deposit and he indeed was a welcome member of our loose knit family, I myself am better off living with men of good repute and habit and unquestioningly sober doing the do. for to me to live in a white washed box is not such a good thing, In the mean time a long time resident upgraded to the larger room that was vacated, so his up for a good match to move in someone who is making his life and maintaining what he has gotten as a result of AA/. while alllthe while progressing in his employment, (There are three retired men in residence, if you count me more). We each live our own lives, One retiree tours the world goes abroad usually We have a great crew, low maintaince for the most part the quiet to hear your self think, and thats it for my new year blog, ps. im allowed ot cut down on my meetings actually told to as I am required at two meetings and there is a suggestion that I circulate and gain perspctive by attending meetings of the past. Let alone th time to devote to redecoration... Cheers for sure for the new year, At this time ther e is There is a room available upon notice and the price for this room is $650 mo with amenities. there is a 200 dollar deposit refundable with 30 day notice. Standard Sober living contract. there are prerequisites,

Our Story

"If you are serious about recovery and seek a home to trudge the road from, you have found your haven here” Found and continuing inside our gates is sanctuary from the hustle bustle on guard habitus of the outside world of our monster city. Men of good nature, living their own lives, who are inpossession of their faculties and know how to attend to themselves and live independently, we each live our own lives, a relief to leave all that ouside when we come home. Men that know the rudiments of daily life and are living theirs sober, as the house has matured in experience and stature the arena has become one of men that stay and live their lives until it’s ttme for a solid move, in progression of their life building, thisis home. there ar eonly single rooms, that works the bewst for me as I live here myself. the house h Cambridge House is as of 2018 110 years old, yet its quite modern inside yet in keeping of its historic stature as a contributiing structure in the West Adams Harvard Heights tract, it’s homey, its a huge house, two kitchens, and various other areas that were common for it’s time period, the Beverly hills when Beverly Hills was dusty farm land. Cambridge house has been home to at least one world celebrated celebrity athlete. It was designed by a leading architect of the era, Frank M. Tyler it is one of his later works. Ther eis much history here in the area and the house if protected by the dedicated historic area status.

My late partner and I bought our home in 1999 and the two of us knocked around in this 4100 sq ft area until 2007 we retired and thought to become sober living and put the house to use, the house love people so began this voyage of CHSL as recovered, recovering Alcholics who were put together in the rooms both being aolpha personalities, we learnd to live and operaate as a power team and in our years together the rough edges became smooth and so the same of our relationship, both service oriented and when we opened we took on hard cases, the ones that were finished in other facilities and we had good works and sucess within the parameter. It’s a lot of work to get through to those that are on the caurosel anon anon, yet we had good success, we both family oriented became Uncle John and Uncle Richard, We attended physicians diversion once a week for two years and when it was considered that we were stable great things began. Where we did service as visiting observers and examiners of the children and young men in group home in the inner city, we did out work and were loved by all, our findings were transmitted to family court and child protective services. We carved our niche as there was no such other entity doing this work and were able to in four years save up to open a brick and mortar clinic, once physicans probation ended we bacame the protal for physicians in diversion to begin to work again and under supervision and we made progress reports to the Diversion board. This afforded us some of the best physicians, the ones that would push themselves so hard that they used medicine to keep up the pace and run till the wheels fell of in many cases. When my partner fell and broke his neck I carried out what needed to be done to keep things working, its a tough go for two people and for one and the addition of taking care of a partner with a broken neck, for 16 years we were inseperable, seldom did one see us not in company, virtually 24/7 year in year out. he fell to the process of accelerated decrepitude, I hung in there day and night through the end and once I was clear I did collapse and end up in the hospital a number of times in the first year after, I was on drop in status in my professional group of cohorts, and with that safety net and Aa I have gotten through, I was a low bottom drunk after a sucesful 2 decades in business, I was living in my car on the streets unemployable, yet untouchable for reasonds I do no longer share. I did this for a good three years, and one year into sobriety. Ive made it through annealed and stronger and needed the serenity afforded here in the house today, men come here to put their life together, keep it up and know that it’s safe, I am thourugh in my interviews as this is our sanctuary, we do not meddle we do ot palsy walsy though we are civil and friendly, no circus here, down to earth men making the best years yet, Over 100 yars of sobriety here in house, between six men and myself, proven in life and jobs and absolutely having fun outside and the camaraderie of minding our own business and living in a loving home uninterfered with in our personal pursuits, the house is a living being, we know if something is off kilter as our continuium is continious, We did have a house member leave home two years ago, he began to work for the railroad and after 4 years they transfered him to Chicago, Im not in a rush to keep the rooms filled, there is seldom a opening, and ther is a great front bedroom that Im currently using for storage an sorting, when the right one appears it will be filled also, Im exceedingly careful who come in this is a closed house, closed to the outside world, All is on the up and up here.

NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH, OUR SOLAR SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED YESTERDAY THAT MAKES IT EASIER ON THE BUDGET TO RUN THE AC GREAT THING, .
