Rita Mastrangelo

Rita Mastrangelo Well hello there. I'm Rita the founder of The Autism Wellness Academy.

As a passionate advocate for children diagnosed with autism, I help families reduce challenging behaviours and improve their child's health through nutrition, gut health and lifestyle.

Many children with an autism diagnosis are picky eaters, dysregulated, stressed, constipated andtheir nervous system is constantly in fight or flight.
The answer isn’t just food. It’s finding ways to calm the nervous system through lifestyle and nutrition then we can supplement with digestive enzymes to support what’s already happening.

This is exactly what I work on with all families in Growing Up Resilient; one complete container with nutrition, functional lab testing, and lifestyle support.

If you wanna learn more on how I work with children, comment CALL or DM me and I’ll send you the link to schedule a free chat.

Most parents aren’t missing anything,
they’re just not being shown where to look.

When a child is struggling with meltdowns, sensory overwhelm, picky eating,
it’s easy to stay focused on what’s happening on the surface.

But behavior is only part of the picture.

When something in the body isn’t right, it will show up in how a child regulates, behaves and learns.

Sometimes even as regression.

Addressing those things doesn’t change how a child is wired, but it can change how they function day to day.

That’s when families start to notice changes they weren’t expecting.
More calm, better focus, more flexibility.

This is not because the diagnosis changed, but because the child finally feels better.

I’m not here to debate diagnoses.
I’m here to help parents understand what might be contributing.

Have you ever felt like something was being missed?

I’m open to this conversation

Most families I speak with have a cupboard full of supplements.

Probiotics.
Vitamins.
Detox sprays
Fish oils
Things they were told would help.

Some work for a bit.
Some do nothing.
Some make things worse.

And then they stop because they haven’t seen a change and they don’t know if anything was actually working.

That’s the problem.

Supplements aren’t the issue. They’re there to fill in the gaps. But, if you don’t know what your child actually needs,
that’s where things start falling apart.

You don’t know what you’re targeting.
You don’t know if something’s helping.
You don’t know how long to use it for.

That’s how money gets wasted.
That’s how time gets wasted.
That’s why you feel stuck and stop everything.

When I work with families we look at what’s actually going on and build from there.

If you want to understand how I approach this, I’ve opened a few spots on my calendar.

Not a sales call just a conversation to give you clarity and leave less confused.

This is something more parents need to understand and just one piece of the puzzle

We know that children today are exposed to more environmental factors than ever before starting before they are even born.

And while autism is clinically defined as a neurodevelopmental condition…

👉Not every child presents the same
👉Not every child has the same underlying stressors
👉Not every story is as simple as a diagnosis alone

When we only look at behavior, we miss what’s happening underneath.

I often see layers like:
👉nutrient deficiencies
👉gut imbalances
👉chronic inflammation
👉environmental stressors
👉dysregulation

When we identify them and start supporting properly, we can start to see changes in regulation, behaviour and independence.

We are not fixing, but removing, bringing balance back and most importantly supporting.

It’s about asking better questions and supporting the child in front of you.

If you’ve ever felt like there’s more to your child’s story, you’re not wrong. Trust your gut.

Most families are never told that gut dysfunction, toxic overload and nutrient deficiencies can drive behaviors that look exactly like autism.

That’s not an opinion.

That’s what happens when nobody looks at the body.

I’ve seen it with my own son.

I see it with the children I work with every day.

Addressing the “biology” doesn’t redefine the diagnosis, but it can change everything about how your child functions.

I’m going live Tuesday April 15th at 7pm EST to break down exactly what I look for and what you can do about it.

Parents deserve better than a label with no explanation other than their child meets the criteria for autism.

Therapy has its place. But it doesn’t tell you why the behaviors are happening and without that, you’re managing symptoms, not solving the problem.

What most children actually need isn’t a miracle. They need someone who looks deeper and investigates what’s actually happening inside their body.

I’m hosting a webclass Wednesday, April 15 at 2:30 PM EST where I’ll share:
What’s actually driving behaviors that look like autism

How to look beyond the diagnosis

Where lasting change can come from.

I had the honor of meeting Temple Grandin this past week and even speaking with her about Jordan.

The first thing she asked me was:
“What kind of learner is he?”

He’s a strong visual-spatial learner and great with numbers and dates. Very similar to how she describes her own way as a visual learner.
I said he wants to be pilot and she said we need mechanics to fix planes not fly them.

The conversation continues to stay with me because not once did we speak about autism.
Many get focused on the diagnosis that
we forget to look at the child.

She says autism is a neurodevelopmental condition from birth.
It’s not something to fix.
It’s something to support.

Many of the children I work with today are struggling with more than just the autism behaviours..
Their bodies are overwhelmed and when we start supporting that, things begin to change.

Not who they are, but how they function, regulate, and engage with the world.

Another truth is you don’t fully see a child’s strengths right away.

It unfolds over time.

If you’re wondering where to start, comment “START” and I’ll send you what I typically recommend first.

Last night, Jordan collected his own stool sample for me.

And yes… I still test.

Even though he’s no longer a picky eater, I still run labs. He has made significant gains, but that doesn’t always mean the underlying imbalances are fully addressed.

Many parents are told to focus only on behaviour, but behaviours are often a reflection of what’s happening inside the body.

Testing removes the guesswork.

It shows you where to focus so you can support your child in a targeted way.

Progress doesn’t mean everything is “fixed.”

It means you keep building on a stronger foundation.

I use functional lab testing to identify underlying imbalances and build individualized plans around your child’s specific needs, including nutrition and picky eating strategies.

I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach.

If you’d like to learn how I can support your child, comment “CALL” and I’ll send you my booking link.
