How do you appoint someone who falsified data the head of one of our nation's premier research institutions? I have worked with the whistleblower, Dr. Hendrix on a number of projects. If he says there was a problem, there was a problem.

This is not just an issue of dishonesty. Clinical research is collaborative and incremental; it builds on the previous work of others. When you falsify data you lead other researchers down a rabbit hole. As Dr. Hendrix so aptly stated faulty data can create major setbacks. "It's a huge waste of funds," he said. "But just as importantly, it diminishes trust, which is essential in science. If truth is eroded, then the whole enterprise falls apart."

Take the time, invest in the regulatory infrastructure and do it right.

Critics say the Trump administration failed to properly vet Dr. Robert Redfield.
