Due to the limited number of vaccines, the pre-registration link for monkeypox vaccine has reached capacity and is currently paused. Please subscribe to the LADPH monkeypox newsletter on the LADPH monkeypox website to be notified when pre-registration may reopen. Those already registered will receive a text message from Public Health inviting them to be vaccinated over the next few days. Please do not call or show up at monkeypox vaccination clinics or public walk-up sites without a personal text message invitation from Public Health as this is required proof of verification.

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection. In most countries, cases are rarely seen in people who have not traveled to Central or West Africa. However, there has been a recent uptick in cases in countries among people who have not visited Africa, including in Europe and North America. Monkeypox is spread by close contact with someone who has symptoms or by touching contaminated items. It can cause flu-like symptoms and a rash that can be bumpy or fluid-filled on the face, body, ge****ls, arms, and legs. It may also be limited to one part of the body. If you have symptoms of monkeypox, isolate yourself from others and contact a health care provider right away to get checked. Currently, the risk of getting monkeypox is very low.

The federal supply of the monkeypox vaccine remains limited. The Public Health priority is to administer the first dose of the vaccine to as many people who are at higher risk for monkeypox exposure as possible. When the vaccine supply improves, Public Health will make second doses available.

UAII Clinic is not offering the YNNEOS vaccine for Monkeypox prevention. Please visit the LA County Department of Public Health website at http://ow.ly/yy5q50Ke49h for more information on Monkeypox vaccination eligibility and sign-up.

Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. It is also known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Juneteenth Independence Day, and Black Independence Day. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in
Galveston, TX, and announced the end of the civil war and the end of slavery. Although the Emancipation Proclamation came 2½ years earlier on January 1, 1863, many enslavers continued to hold enslaved Black people captive after the announcement, and
Juneteenth became a symbolic date representing African-American freedom.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021. All 50 states and the District of Columbia recognize

Juneteenth as a holiday or observance, and at least 18 states have enacted laws to observe the holiday as a paid
state holiday.

Today we honor and celebrate the emancipation Day, the Juneteenth Independence Day!
