The Neuroscience of Chronic Illness Research Center (NCRC), directed by Dr. April Thames, is located in UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Our specific areas of research focus in chronic illness and disease are outlined below:

1.We are interested in understanding how neurological and neurocognitive deficits associated with HIV/AIDS persists in the era of combined antiretr

oviral therapy.

2. We are interested in how psychosocial factors such as education, psychiatric functioning and literacy affect the expression of cognitive impairment.

4.We are interested in understanding how cultural-linked factors (e.g., stereotype threat) influence the validity of standard clinical and neuropsychological.
