ally noun
al·ly | \ ˈa-ˌlī , ə-ˈlī \
plural allies
one that is associated with another as a helper : a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity, or struggle
An LGBTQ+ ally is a heterosexual (straight) and/or cisgender person (identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth) who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, and LGBTQ+ social movements, challenging homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.
They understand the importance of equality, fairness, acceptance, and mutual respect.
There is no cookie-cutter way to be an ally. Doing so requires education, advocacy, action, and a desire to learn from your mistakes.
