To the people wanting to wear traditional Indigenous clothing from Mexico, but are conflicted because we are no sabo kids that are descendent from indigenous heritage: I was born in the USA too. My parents have roots in Yucatec Maya and Purépecha, I have a diverse heritage. I don’t speak Spanish (people already don’t understand my English 🙃), but l like wearing traditional clothing and studying our cultures. Our families in Mexico help get the clothes.
I say follow the call of your ancestors—they are tugging at your heart for a reason. It’s never too late to embrace our Indigenous roots. It doesn’t matter if we’re mixed, half, or raised somewhere else—we are still children of corn.

I know there were great actions of humanity that the media did not care to show, and I know the oppressors are goading us for violence, but why give them what they want? What good does it do turning peaceful protests into riots? Nothing. What good is it to loot local businesses and destroy property? It’s not good acting like the thieves they think we are. What good is it burning the American flag? It’s disrespectful. Remember, even our own have given their lives for the American dream. We shouldn’t give in to what the oppressors want. They want us to act like “savages,” and “savages” we are not. 🇺🇸 .artist
