Your feet don't itch more at night. You just finally notice.
During the day, distractions mask what your nerves are signaling. At night, the brain tunes in — and for people with diabetes, that signal can mean peripheral neuropathy.
Neuropathic itch produces no visible rash. No redness. Nothing to see. That's exactly why most people brush it off. But nighttime foot itching with no visible cause is one of the earliest warning signs of nerve damage.
The escalation path: persistent itch → loss of protective sensation → unnoticed skin breaks → infection.
If you have diabetes and your feet itch at night, don't wait for a wound. See your podiatrist.
