Yesterday, I said goodbye to the team at the and my colleagues at

I did not expect to leave the university after only one year as a faculty member. However, throughout this past year, I reflected on my career and long-term goals, which led me to finally take the leap I had been nervous about for the last couple of years.

I’m thankful for my year at WesternU CVM and the techs, faculty, and staff I worked with. I hope I made at least one small difference while there.

Here’s to new adventures and beginnings! I am so at peace with this transition and new future for me. I will spend the next few months soaking up the beautiful California weather until I move back south for further training!

Now that things are in order, I’m SO EXCITED to announce that I matched into a radiology residency at !! Said goodbye to my bestest friend, Oakley, this past week… As all of my clients say, “he was the best dog.” But this was true for Oakley. He was with me as I started college and moved with me to Mississippi State to finish my bachelor’s. We spent many days and nights studying together before I left for vet school. Thanks to my nana, mom, and dad, for taking care of him the last several years.

He got to spend his last day on one last walk, eating McDonalds and having a chocolate sundae! He also got to open his last Christmas gift as he always loved doing every year… He’s no longer suffering and back to running and playing fetch! ❤️🐶

We welcomed 120 new DVM students to WesternU College of Veterinary Medicine today! They received their white coats which represents their entrance and commitment to the profession. I am so excited to follow these students throughout their next 4 years and play a small role in their career! Congrats, Class of 2028! Let's go learn some vet med!

One of my biggest reasons for wanting to become clinical faculty at was to give students more hands-on opportunities! No matter if you’re a student at a university with a big teaching hospital, or a student in our distributive model- students often get pushed to the side to watch. The best learning is when you get to do it!

Here’s a snapshot of some first year veterinary students who got to practice their sterile gowning and gloving and help assist during an aural hematoma repair.

Day 1 - ✅🥰🤩👨‍⚕️

I am so excited to share that I have accepted the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Veterinary Practice, Urgent Care at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine!

Today was surreal! Faculty, who only a few years ago were my professors, have welcomed me with open arms in joining amongst their rank as a professor myself.

I always joked with various faculty during my time at WesternU as a vet student that I would be back as faculty one day… I just never thought it would be this soon!

The deans at the school have trusted in me and have been fully supportive in me for this position. Over the next 6 months, I will be opening and developing an on-campus urgent care that will eventually turn into a rotation for students. This urgent care clinic will offer after-hour care to the surrounding community, hopefully taking the strain off of our hard-working ER teams.

I am SO excited and nervous for this new adventure! I can’t wait to be the mentor that I always needed as a vet student!!

Sharing Veterinary Medicine Through Music, Comedy, & Honesty

I am a fourth-year veterinary student at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine. I started sharing my vet school journey on Instagram (@drmoore.studentvet) halfway through my first year of vet school. Throughout my first two years of education, I realized that there were multiple issues that must be addressed within our profession. The first issue that really hit home for me was students experiencing imposter syndrome. I experienced this during my first semester of school along with several of my classmates (and I still go through bouts of this!). We often feel like we are not worthy enough for vet school and that we slipped through the cracks and got in on accident. This can have a negative impact on students mentally and it must be addressed. Another issue that I found was common within the profession is that many veterinarians aren’t happy with their decision of becoming a vet. I truly believe that this is multifactorial, but it must not be ignored. I know I’m young, but I’m truly excited for the future of this profession and I want to be a voice and help re-light that fire that used to burn bright in those veterinarians that may be experiencing burnout.

I have built my social media platform around these and many other issues. I want to shed a positive light on the profession and help those that are going through rough times. My platform has grown much more than anticipated, which has allowed me to connect with veterinary students, veterinarians, vet techs, and pet owners from all around the world. I enjoy sharing my journey and encouraging others through music, comedy, and honesty.

Life is too short to be a stick in the mud! Loosen up, have fun, and love life! I’m glad you have decided to follow my journey! Please don’t hesitate to reach out and get connected!
