Welcome to On Bright Wings

On Bright Wings is an innovative, creative, and sacred death midwifery service for end-of-life guidance, education, and support. We offer private in-home and in-facility consultations, guidance, and support; as well as workshops in dying consciously, grief and loss support, and end-of-life guidance and education for individuals, groups, and families. On Bright Wings uses creative therapy techniques such as art, music, dialogue and reenactment, and guided imagery to achieve peace, comfort, and healing acceptance in preparation for life's next adventure. Trisha Jauchler, MA, MS, RDT/BCT is the founder and director of On Bright Wings. She is a Registered Drama Therapist, trained death midwife, and ordained non-denominational minister. She has over 25 years of experience leading educational, therapeutic, spiritual, and creative groups for adults, teens, and children. She is an adjunct professor at the Drama Therapy Institute of Los Angeles, and an instructor in the Pathway Program at UCLA Extension. About Owls:
In many cultures Owl is seen as guardian of the otherworld and protector of the dead. Wise Owl is ruler of the night and seer of souls, a keeper of spirits who have passed from one plane to another. Myth often tells of Owl accompanying a spirit to the otherworld, winging its newly freed soul from the physical world into the realm of spirit.

Intellectualization in Grief: Defense Mechanisms Demystified
“…When a person is confronted with painful or frightening emotions, they might try to intellectualize them, rather than actually experience them. In this way, they avoid making contact with their feelings by examining them from an arm's length away.”

It’s understandable to want to avoid painful feelings, and grief has lots of them! We can feel angry, sad or depressed, guilty, and/or relief all at once or separately. It’s overwhelming! One of the ways we avoid messy feelings is by intellectualizing. This article explains the how and why of doing so, and why it’s so important to feel the feelings in all their messy glory!
