International Transgender Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️ Today, we honor and celebrate transgender and gender diverse individuals, their resilience, their leadership, and their lived experiences.

Visibility matters. It creates space for understanding, reduces stigma, and reminds people that they are not alone. At the same time, visibility must be paired with safety, access to affirming care, and ongoing advocacy.

Here at Guidelight, we are committed to creating safe, inclusive, respectful environments where individuals of all gender identities feel seen and supported. That means listening with humility, using affirming language, and delivering evidence-based care that honors each person’s identity and lived experience.

We remain committed to learning, showing up, and doing the work required to build spaces where everyone has a seat. đź’™

World Bipolar Day đź’™ Today, we recognize World Bipolar Day and raise awareness around bipolar disorder, a mental health condition that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide.

Bipolar disorder is often misunderstood. It is not simply moodiness or personality. It is a complex condition that can include periods of depression, elevated mood, changes in energy, sleep disruption, and shifts in functioning. With accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and strong support systems, individuals living with bipolar disorder can build stability, meaning, and fulfilling lives.

At Guidelight, we are committed to reducing stigma and expanding access to structured, compassionate care for individuals navigating mood disorders. Through collaborative treatment planning, medication management, and group-based therapeutic support, we work alongside clients to promote safety, skill-building, and long-term progress.

Awareness matters. Education matters. Access to care matters. Today and every day, we stand with those living with bipolar disorder and the families who support them. Education is a powerful step toward reducing stigma. Learn more about the different types of bipolar disorder and their symptoms: https://hubs.ly/Q048TLPx0

We recently welcomed providers, partners, and community members into our new West Los Angeles clinic. 🌆 The evening was filled with connection, thoughtful conversation, and a shared commitment to expanding access to high-quality mental health care across the L.A. community. Nearly 70 guests toured the clinic, met our team, and learned more about our adult Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs and the outcomes-driven, evidence-based care we’re proud to bring to the area.

In true Guidelight fashion, we added a small surprise to the evening and celebrated Andy Cruz with a birthday cake. 🎂 A sweet moment that reflected the leadership and heart behind this expansion. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the night feel so welcoming. We’re excited to continue building strong relationships across Los Angeles and to serve this community with care, compassion, and clinical excellence.

If you’re a provider looking to connect or refer, we’d love to meet you. Discover our programs and how we’re expanding access to care in West L.A. at the link in our bio.

Strength and vulnerability can coexist. đź’› During Black History Month, Chidi A. Wamuo, MD, Medical Director at Guidelight Waltham was interviewed on CBS News Boston to spotlight an important truth: for generations, mental health has been heavily stigmatized in Black and Brown communities, and that stigma continues to shape who gets care and who does not.

According to recent NIH data, 20% of Black adults in the U.S. report experiencing mental health challenges, yet only 39% of Black adults with mental illness receive treatment compared to 52% of white adults. These gaps reflect more than individual barriers. They reflect the powerful role of social determinants of health, including access to care, community context, and lived experience.

In the interview, Dr. Wamuo emphasized that mental and physical health are deeply connected and that the environments where children and adolescents live, learn, and grow can shape outcomes well into adulthood. He also highlighted the protective power of community, noting that even one supportive adult in a child’s life can meaningfully change their trajectory.

At Guidelight, we believe equitable mental health care starts with understanding the full context of each person’s story. That means continuing to normalize conversations, reduce stigma, and ensure care is accessible to the communities who need it most. Because when we create space for both strength and vulnerability, healing becomes possible.

Worcester Team Donates 30 Pounds of Food 🥫 Our Worcester team recently organized a food drive to support the Worcester County Food Bank. Teammates, clients, and clients’ families came together to donate nonperishable food items, helping extend care beyond the clinic and into the community.

As part of the effort, Stephenie Miller incorporated the drive into an experiential group, where adolescent clients decorated the donation box. It was a meaningful way for clients to take part in giving back while also engaging in a creative, purpose-driven activity. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the drive a success.

During Black History Month, we are reflecting on how social context shapes mental health and why looking beneath behavior matters. 🔎 In a recent Guidelight continuing education session, Dr. Chidi Wamuo, Waltham Medical Director, explored how social determinants of health, including housing, education, safety, and access to care, influence the way mental health challenges show up in children and adolescents.

Research shows that adversity can shape long-term outcomes. Just as importantly, positive relationships and supportive environments can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. At Guidelight, we believe equitable mental health care begins with understanding the full context of each client’s story. When we look beyond symptoms and consider the environments people live in, we can offer more thoughtful, effective, and compassionate care.

Guidelight Hits the Ice for Mental Health Awareness 🏒 This month, our team had a great time representing Guidelight at a Worcester Railers hockey game, cheering on the home team while connecting with families from the community. At our booth we had meaningful conversations about mental health, including a fun moment where kids were asked to share their favorite coping skills. Parents listened proudly as their children named strategies like taking deep breaths, listening to music, and talking to someone they trust. Kids and families also had the chance to spin the prize wheel, with Guidelight hockey pucks among the giveaways, bringing our message of support and wellness right into the stands. It was a great reminder of how simple conversations can help normalize mental health for all ages.

Talent Thursday: Building Our Future in Washington 🎓💚 Over the past two weeks, our Washington teammates attended career fairs at Western Washington University and the University of Washington. These events were a great opportunity to introduce Guidelight to a new market and start building a strong local talent pipeline as we prepare to grow our presence in the state.

We connected with students interested in behavioral health careers, many of whom were excited about support services roles as a way to gain hands-on experience in the field. There was also strong interest in internship opportunities, reinforcing our commitment to creating meaningful pathways for early-career clinicians.

The response across campuses was incredibly positive. Students and community partners alike recognized the need for more intermediate levels of care in Washington, especially in areas like Everett, and were eager to learn more about the work Guidelight is doing.

As we prepare for our Washington launch this year, we’re excited to keep building relationships and welcoming new teammates into the Guidelight community.

Our Colorado team had a terrific time representing Guidelight at the Pikes Peak Winter Symposium. ❄️  The event provided a great opportunity to connect with community partners, share more about our programs, and continue building relationships across the region.

Beyond the professional connections, it was also a chance for teammates to spend time together, strengthen those bonds, and have a little fun along the way. Thank you to everyone who helped represent Guidelight and bring our mission into the community.
