Leaps...n...Boundz We provide therapy, recreation, and social programs for individuals with diverse abilities!

We are invested in the growth of our clients by helping them learn adaptive skills and age-appropriate behaviors that in turn help them become successful in their lives. We provide a range of services including behavior assessments and one-on-one intensive sessions. Ideally, individuals receiving Behavior Therapy Services will benefit from one of our other programs, which in total provide a compre

hensive, well-rounded treatment plan. We pride ourselves in building a strong community for families who can benefit from group outings and special trips. Our social skills coaches work with students on concepts such as “expected and unexpected” behavior in a group, whole body listening, thinking with our eyes, building social memories, and perspective taking.Group activities are age appropriate, fun and interactive. Students are carefully and thoughtfully matched with peers who will be working at a similar social level. Gymnastics sessions include climbing, tumbling, trampoline, balance beam, bars, vault and strengthen and conditioning within our safe and fun learning environment. These sensory and motor activities can build a foundation for muscle strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and posture, which can increase spatial awareness, body management and self-confidence. Each gymnast is assessed and provided individual goals geared to achieve progressive gymnastics levels. The Tailored Services program provides training and support, guiding individuals in the development of the skills necessary to achieve life goals. Program participants can explore employment options and volunteer placement, continue learning with post-secondary education support and connect with the community by leading an integrated and inclusive life.

URGENT ACTION ALERT: STOP MEDICAID CUTS NOW!

The United States Congress is considering major cuts to the Medicaid program during the week of May 12 — but the real decisions are happening right NOW behind closed doors.

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee are holding private meetings next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, and here’s what is being reported:

A proposal to impose a per capita cap on Medicaid. This means the federal government will limit the average per person spending. This would severely impact states like California, which provide more robust support for people with disabilities. Per capita caps do not account for individual needs and would almost certainly lead to deep service cuts.

A plan to reduce federal funding for the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion, jeopardizing coverage for millions, including support staff who care for people with disabilities.

Both proposals could cut hundreds of billions of federal Medicaid dollars, threatening access to care in California and nationwide. People with disabilities will be among those hit hardest.

Now is the time to act. We must direct our attention to the Republicans members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who are supporting these harmful proposals. Whether or not you live in their districts, your call can make a difference.

Call the offices of these committee members and deliver this message:

My name is [Your Name], I am a person with a disability [OR] a family member of someone with a disability [OR] a professional who supports people with disabilities.

I am calling to urge you to oppose all cuts to the Medicaid program.

Medicaid caps could endanger my life [OR] the life of someone I care about. I also oppose cutting federal dollars for the Medicaid expansion. Many of the people who support me [OR] my family member are covered by the expansion and do not qualify for health care elsewhere.

These cuts would be devastating for people with disabilities. Our lives are on the line. Please oppose all efforts to cut Medicaid.

Who should call?

Everyone. If you live in a district represented by a Republican member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, your voice is especially powerful. But even if you don't, you can still call and encourage others to do the same.

Think about who you know in these areas — friends, family, colleagues — and ask them to make a call.

History of LMU Special Games

Special Games is a student-run, non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities. Established in 1977 on the Loyola Marymount University campus, Special Games began as the LMU Special Olympics of 1978 sanctioned by California Special Olympics. When the games ended, the students of Loyola Marymount decided to build their own program, known today as Special Games. LMU is the first and only university to create, sponsor, and produce a community project of this magnitude.

Special Games was founded as a day of celebration for the special needs community of Los Angeles. A team of very dedicated LMU students is responsible for organizing and planning each year’s event. We are funded exclusively by donations and are presently celebrating our 48th year and return of Special Games, spreading joy and love for over a quarter of a century. Our team of student leaders and volunteer coaches are excited to welcome our athletes back to the bluff this March.

The mission of Special Games is to bring together individuals with disabilities from across Los Angeles and the Loyola Marymount University community for a day of fun, friendship, and personal growth. Today, we continue our goal of fostering love, creating new friendships, and making life-long memories.

The 2025 Special Games will take place on:
Saturday, March 15th, 2025 (Practice Day) Saturday, March 22nd, 2025 (BIG Day)

2025 Theme: Every Special Games has a fun theme to get athletes and volunteers excited. This year's "Into the Jungle" theme is meant to be a canopy of creativity where imagination grows as lush as the rainforest. Every athlete, every coach, and every volunteer is invited to swing into the wild and dive into a world of adventure!
