Black Maternal Health Week is a call to start a conversation, tell the truth, and change the system.
In the U.S., Black mothers are still 3–4x more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications.
This is not about genetics.
It’s about who gets heard, who gets believed, and who gets access to respectful, evidence-based care.
We already know what improves outcomes:
✔️ Midwifery-led, relationship-based care
✔️ Fewer unnecessary interventions
✔️ Models that center the voice of the birthing person
Yet access to this care remains limited. That’s not a gap in knowledge. Even worse, it’s a gap in priorities.
If we’re serious about maternal health, we need to invest in the providers and models that are already creating safer outcomes. Especially for Black birthing women.
Equity isn’t a talking point. It’s a responsibility.
