ABOUT "Mindful Kindful YOUniversity" ~
Sound Healing / Drum Circles / Retreats

Mindful ~ Kindful ~ Peaceful: The moment to moment practices to transform our lives into harmony with our true nature. Flowing and Growing Through Life: Everything is energy and energy is transforming. Season gently transforming to the next season, daylight into the darkness of night, windy storms settling into stillness. A fallen leaf eventually becomes part of the earth, a fallen pine cone becomes food, or a seed becomes a tree or a flower. What may seem like the end is actually the becoming of something new. Energy becoming. Who have you become? Who are you becoming? Life has a way of bringing up this question again and again as we confront both daily challenges and life-changing events. What if who you are becoming, or hope to become, is also about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you so you can discover, or re-discover, your true nature and how you want to show up in life no matter what obstacles may appear - in health, relationships, or other life circumstances. "It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey." ~Wendell Berry

The word university is derived from the Latin word universus, meaning “whole, entire.” Mindful Kindful YOUniversity (MK YOU) is the study of YOU and your whole-being on this journey of life. Learn and practice how to navigate and flow through life moment to moment in a healthy, balanced, and positive way for mental and physical health and well-being. Your well-being is the most important education you will ever receive in the school of life. Learn pragmatic, simple evidence-based practices to navigate the ups and downs of daily living and positively support you in responding to life as it is — the good stuff, the tough stuff, all of it — with grace and the skills to be mindful, kindful, and peaceful. Experience for yourself how these practices and essential life skills of mindfulness, heartfulness, supported by nature and sound energy, can be the foundation for greater strength, resilience, health, and happiness. I would be honored to be your guide.

Therapeutic sound works on a vibrational level — it’s not just heard, it’s felt. These are frequencies found in nature — the subtle rhythms and harmonics that all living beings resonate with. Just like birdsong, rustling leaves, or flowing water, healing sound reattunes us — and animals — to a more balanced state of being.

When I work with sound and the donkeys, we’re not introducing something foreign — we’re tapping into something deeply natural and intuitive. Animals are incredibly sensitive to vibration and energy. They respond without judgment, without analysis. They feel the shift. The donkeys often become calmer, more present, and deeply relaxed — as if they’re remembering a language they already know.

This kind of shared experience allows us to create what’s known as coherence — a state where our hearts, minds, and bodies are in harmony. It’s a measurable state of alignment where the nervous system relaxes, the heart rate stabilizes, and we feel more connected — not just to ourselves, but to each other. When humans and animals come together in this space, our collective energy synchronizes. It becomes a shared field of calm, safety, and presence.

That’s why we’re offering a sound bath not just for the donkeys, but with them. It’s a fundraiser, yes — but also an invitation to experience interspecies coherence, healing, and connection. A moment to rest in nature’s frequencies — together.

Please consider coming to support the great work B***o Sanctuary is doing to care for these donkeys in their new forever home. Fundraiser Sound Bath Journey on Sat Oct 25 at 4:30 with the donkeys! Yesterday I visited Merrill Gardens in Santa Maria for the first time to drum with the memory care residents. What a fun group that was! It’s always interesting seeing the energy that some of them come in with which is quite low and by the time we’re done everyone is laughing and smiling. It’s a very noticeable shift and so gratifying. Photos weren’t sllowed but the memories are still deep in my heart. So many of them said “I hope you can come back” including the staff! Everyone deserves to have fun!

I took this photo years ago while on a walk. Today, I’m sending out love wherever it’s needed. 💙☁️

With flooding in Mexico and Alaska, I’m feeling especially grateful and safe in my home. We had an intense rainstorm last night, and I was awakened by a loud alarm on my phone — a tornado warning! What?! That’s so unusual for our coastal area, and it was definitely a bit unnerving. Thankfully, I haven’t seen any reports of touchdowns nearby, and I’m deeply grateful we are safe.

This morning, my thoughts turn to the little birdies who visit my deck for peanuts and seed, to the sweet donkeys at .burro.donkey.sanctuary , and to all the wildlife weathering the storm. I wonder what birds and animals think of storms... 🌧️

At least I know the trees, plants, and flowers are drinking it all in, grateful for the rain.

Bonus - grateful my car got a free car wash from the rain!

Wishing you a sunshiney day — if not outside, then at least bring some into your heart. 🌞💛
Stay safe, everyone.

🎃 spooktacular and powerful advice

Edit- I'm amazed how many people are poking fun about how "power" is on there twice. Whether it's a mistake or to be pondered for possibly two different meanings - that's up to you to decide how you want to respond. This was shared for taking what you need from this.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

It’s more than a date on the calendar,
it’s a reminder of the battles people fight silently every day.

• Anxiety that feels like a heavy chest.
• Depression that makes it hard to get up.
• PTSD that replays memories you never asked for.
• OCD that won’t stop whispering.
• ADHD that makes your brain feel like it never slows.
• Eating disorders that distort the mirror.
• Postpartum struggles no one warned you about.
• Bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, and so many others that are real, valid, and often misunderstood.

Mental health is not “just in your head.”
It’s real.
It’s heavy.
And it deserves compassion, not stigma.

If you’re struggling, you are not broken.
If you’re healing, you are not weak.
If you’re surviving, you are stronger than you know.

Today and every day,
Let’s talk about it.
Let’s listen without judgment.
Let’s remember: mental health is health.

You matter.
Your story matters.
Your healing matters.

Without realizing it was World Mental Health Day, I synchronistically took a mental health day!
I made a conscious decision to put everything down today — saying “no” to my endless list of YOUniversity to-do’s and “yes” to soaking up sunshine, music, and art at the Harmony Jade Festival.

It was just the pause I needed — stepping out of doing and allowing myself to simply be. Taking time to refill our own well of well-being is essential to being able to support others in doing the same.

Here’s to making self-care part of our work, not an afterthought.

Wow! We had a big group today! Some said “I heard it was really fun!” And it’s true! With so many people I am constantly making modifications and adaptations so everyone feels included- some use a drumstick instead of hands, some are legally blind so I have to remember to give cues that help them know what we are doing with the hands, some are very hard of hearing, etc. Regardless of any supposed limitations, everyone enjoys being together and creating rhythms playfully!

What’s your medicine? Tomorrow I’ll be sharing rhythm and drumming medicine in the morning with a retirement community (private event) and in the evening I’ll be sharing sound vibrations for our Chakra Flow Sound Journey Series (sold out). Wednesday night, a private drum circle with a woman’s group. On Thursday, I’ll be guiding mindfulness hour for the cancer support community on zoom. So grateful to be able to offer this sacred medicine - it’s much like a hug because when I give, I also receive! I also meet so many amazing people. Sending love where it is needed… ❤️
