More than 98 million Americans (more than 1 in 3 adults) have prediabetes and are at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart attack, or stroke. Of these individuals with prediabetes, 81% of them don’t know they have it.

The good news is that by knowing one’s risk for prediabetes, people can take steps to reverse it and often prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month.
Prediabetes means that your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. If you've been told by your health care professional that you have prediabetes, without making some healthy changes, you have a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

RECALL UPDATE: ByHeart, Inc. has now recalled ALL of its products. More updates are available at: www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/outbreak-investigation-infant-botulism-infant-formula-november-2025

The FDA and CDC are investigating cases of infant botulism that may be linked to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula. Two batches of this infant formula have been recalled. Do not use ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula if the batch code on the bottom of the can is:
• 251261P2 (“Use by 01 Dec 2026”) or
• 251131P2 (“Use by 01 Dec 2026”)

Please throw away any ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula that has either of these batch codes. Wash any items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled formula using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

Seek medical care if your baby has consumed ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula and has any of the symptoms below:
• Poor feeding
• Loss of head control
• Difficulty swallowing
• Decreased facial expression.

Symptoms of infant botulism may take weeks to develop, so please continue to monitor babies for symptoms if you believe they may have eaten a recalled batch of this formula.

In honor of November as Diabetes Awareness Month, please join us for our monthly Diabetes Support Group meeting on Monday, Nov 10 at 5pm at Lawrence County Extension Office for a presentation on Diabetes Basics. A light meal will be served and small prizes to those present. Please share invite others and join us as we learn together. All are welcome, you do not need to have diabetes to attend.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month.
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic health condition in which the body has trouble processing glucose (or sugar) from the bloodstream to use for energy. It means your body isn’t using insulin effectively, and it’s characterized by high blood sugar levels.
