There’s a Delicate balance in academic medicine, but we are always Ready For It — leading with evidence, collaboration, and equity. We know this All Too Well: the future of pediatrics belongs with the next generation of physicians, scientists, and advocates.
Long live the leaders we train, the discoveries we share, and the children we protect.

Faculty from the Department of Pediatrics were active participants in the Kentucky Medical Association meeting this past weekend, where many important resolutions were passed.

Highlights include efforts to safeguard Kentucky’s physician pipeline after federal loan reforms, promote physician mental health, and expand access to insurance coverage for needed medications. Several resolutions also focused on children’s health and safety, including water safety, online safety literacy, counterfeit car seat prevention, sun-safe behavior, and expanded physical education in schools.

We are proud to see members of our department leading and co-authoring many of these initiatives, ensuring that the voices of children, families, and the medical community are represented.

"In 2024, only 86% of pediatric residency positions were filled nationwide...At the University of Louisville School of Medicine, in collaboration with Norton Children's, we are taking strategic, sustained action to reverse these trends and ensure children have continued access to high-quality pediatric care — locally, regionally and nationally."

"In 2024, only 86% of pediatric residency positions were filled nationwide. Even more concerning is the sharp underrepresentation in pediatric subspecialties."
