In 2024 my elementary school clients had a choice at the end of each therapy session- to receive a little grab bag (usually with a small eraser toy/ mochi and a sticker) or donate a dollar to their choice of one of three non-profits. 130 times they chose to donate! $31 was donated to Malala Fund, $33 was donated to Blessings in a Backpack and $66 was donated to St. Baldrick’s!

For 2025 I have kept the most popular non-profit from last year. The other options this year will be The Autism Self-Advocacy Network and My Dog Eats First. I’m excited to see where the dollars go to this year!

(As an aside, I have LOVED watching my clients navigate this choice. Some systematically alternate between giving and taking a grab bag whereas others consistently do one or the other. When they are conflicted I remind them that there is no right or wrong choice with this. It’s good to give and it’s good to receive! Just as importantly, though, is that it’s good to feel empowered as a kid. 😊)
