Taking care of business this Sunday of the Labor Day weekend!
92 year old lady fell and broke her hip. In these cases a cemented hemiarthroplasty (partial hip replacement) is a very successful and powerful operation. Her pain will be better immediately and she will walk on this leg later today with physical therapy

Happy Monday!
I love starting my week with my favorite surgery to perform. Anterior approach hip replacement. Minimally invasive but maximally effective. This patient will stand and walk before leaving the surgery center, use a walker for 1-2 weeks and likely be recovered (function better than before surgery) around 6 weeks from now. Have a great week everyone!

Where our orthopaedic surgeries are performed can vary from patient to patient.

Many patients are good candidates for outpatient procedures at our surgery center. However, patients with certain health conditions may be better suited for surgery at the hospital, where they can be admitted for additional care if needed.

A cortisone injection is an injection of a steroid medication, in combination with a local anesthetic, into an inflamed joint, tendon, bursa, or other area of the body.

Steroids are potent anti-inflammatories that are most effective when injected at the site of the problem. When taken orally, they have to pass through the entire body before reaching the site of inflammation.

This is a wonderful patient of mine who underwent knee replacement on both knees over the past year. She recently came back for her 3 month follow up on her left knee and is doing great! She showed me this shirt she made, just in time for the holidays.

Spent last weekend in Tampa with surgeons all over the country who, like myself, perform Kinematic Alignment Knee Replacement surgery. I enjoyed lectures by innovative surgeons and spent valuable time in the lab, focusing on perfecting the technique and learning new tips and tricks. Six weeks ago I did the first total knee replacement in Kentucky using Medacta NextAR which is a CT-based “augmented reality” technology. This allows me to place the knee replacement in a position that matches the way their knee functioned prior to developing arthritis.
I’m excited to bring this technology to my practice and my patients at Ellis & Badenhausen Orthopaedics, PSC
