Cone rod dystrophy may be rare, but the impact it has on daily life is real. It affects how people see the world—causing sensitivity to light, reduced sharpness, and changes in color vision over time.

Behind every diagnosis is a person adapting, finding strength, and navigating challenges most of us never think about.

Raising awareness helps build understanding, compassion, and support for those navigating this rare condition. It also shines a light on the importance of research and innovation in eye health. 💚

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is more than a diagnosis—it’s a journey that millions of people and families navigate every day.

RP is a group of inherited eye conditions that slowly affect the retina, the part of the eye that senses light. Over time, this can lead to night blindness, loss of peripheral vision (often called “tunnel vision”), and in many cases, significant vision loss.

What makes RP especially challenging is its progression—it often begins in childhood and changes gradually over years or decades. But behind every statistic is a person adapting, learning, and continuing to live fully.

🎉 Employee Spotlight 🎉

Lisa has been a valued part of River City Retina Consultants for an incredible 31 years! Her dedication, knowledge, and commitment have made a lasting impact on our team and the patients we serve.

We truly can’t imagine the office without her contagious laugh and outgoing personality—it just wouldn’t be the same.

When asked to describe herself, Lisa chose the perfect spirit animal: the unicorn—“untamed and mystical.” And honestly, we couldn’t agree more. 🦄
It’s especially fitting because she’s powerful yet calm, truly one of a kind, and has that special spark that lifts everyone around her each day.

Thank you, Lisa, for everything you bring to our team each and every day!

Stargardt disease is often called “juvenile macular degeneration,” but for those living with it, it’s much more than a label—it’s a life-changing journey.

Stargardt disease is a rare inherited eye condition that affects the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. Over time, it causes progressive vision loss—making everyday tasks like reading, recognizing faces, or seeing fine details increasingly difficult.

There’s currently no cure—but there is hope. Ongoing research, clinical trials, and low-vision support tools are helping people adapt, maintain independence, and look toward a brighter future.

For more information on Stargardt Disease check out https://preventblindness.org/ or follow Two Blind Brothers on Facebook.

Let’s keep raising awareness and supporting the Stargardt community.
