Pay Attention—
Pay attention to your body, thoughts, and feelings. What happens in your body and mind when you feel ____? Are you breathing? Are your fists clenched? Is your heart-rate elevated? Are you making up stories about yourself, other people, or situations?

Acknowledge—
Acknowledge when your are feeling activated. What feelings are being activated? Do you feel hurt? Fearful? Embarrassed? Not heard? Abandoned? Misunderstood? Defensive?

Untangle—
Untangle the roots of your
feelings. Are your values being challenged? Are you trying to resolve a disagreement? Are you hoping to please someone else? Are you feeling the need to maintain power and/or control over someone or something? Are you caught up in a story? Are you reacting to what is happening in the present or something else that happened recently...or long ago?

Slow Down—
What narrative do you want to create for yourself and others moving forward? What resources do you have—inner (emotional, spiritual) and external (social, physical, financial)? How can you engage with yourself and others with curiosity and compassion?

Engage—
Slow down your current tasks and interactions. Do you need to respond right now? Can this wait until you are feeling more regulated? Are you mindlessly multitasking? What needs your full attention in this moment? Can you slow down your current task or interaction by 10%? 25%? Can you take a few slow, deep breaths?
