Black ice is one of the most common causes of winter slip-and-fall injuries, especially affecting the low back, hips, wrists, and shoulders.
A simple, temporary tip that may help improve traction:
spray the soles of your shoes with a strong-hold hairspray before heading outdoors. Products like Aquanet create a slightly tacky surface once dry, which can provide added grip on slick surfaces.
How to use:
• Apply generously to the bottom of shoes
• Allow to dry for 30–60 seconds
• Reapply as needed, especially if walking outdoors for extended periods
This is not a substitute for ice cleats or proper footwear, but it can offer an added layer of protection when black ice is present.
Falls can lead to strains, disc injuries, and joint trauma that are often preventable with simple precautions. When conditions are icy, move slowly, use handrails, and take extra care.
Prevention matters.
