Roar!!!

Auggie had a great time at the zoo last week!

I’ve been thinking about how I haven’t given really great updates except for the here and there “hey he’s great and loving life” posts.

If anyone wants a more in-depth update since Auggie rang the bell, comment here and I’ll do my best to get that done tonight or tomorrow.

We love all of you and are so blessed to have such great community in you!

before getting to the hospital for surgery vs after.

it got cancelled. his reaction “phew!”

so sometime between monday and this morning, sir Aug developed a wet cough and when anesthesia listened to him this morning he was wheezing and even required a breathing treatment.

so there’s that. they said they’ll probably reschedule for about 4-6 weeks out from now to make sure he’s all healed up.

last night in the car on the way up to louisville he said “can you guys stop signing me up for surgeries? you should sign Nolan up for surgery just to make him mad.” welp.

good afternoon my friends!

auggie is doing amazing!

we are on our way home from louisville after an appointment with dermatology to get more opinions on a suspicious spot on his cheek, and we’re pretty sure it’s nothing to be super concerned about, but we are going to have it removed under sedation at some point in the near future to be positive.

he had his regular follow up with oncology right before halloween and he passed it with flying colors! he’s doing so well and we couldn’t be happier!!

so these days he’s just being a happy, hyper 5 year old boy.

Just an update. Everything went great with Auggie. Thank you for prayers. We’re home.

Okie doke.

Back at the beginning of treatment, Auggie displayed some symptoms that seemed familiar of Nolan, our oldest, when we were on the path of figuring out that he had a tethered spinal cord. At the same time, Auggie’s symptoms could have been a result of the chemo and other treatments he was receiving.

Either way, through a series of events (mostly MRIs, but also other tests) we discovered that Auggie wanted to be so much like his biggest brother that he also has a tethered spinal cord. Auggie had some similar symptoms, but he has a lot of different things going on like leg pain and numbness, along with the original things going on that alerted me. He gets tired easily from walking around too much and he sometimes gets headaches and back pain.

So this coming Monday, July 28th, Auggie will be having a tethered cord release surgery. I would say a whole “thankfully we have been through this before” but does it really make it easier to have him go through yet another surgery? We know what to expect somewhat and actually the way they do things have improved and it won’t be as intense as it was with Nolan. I’m just not ready.

We haven’t talked to him really about it, and I’m not sure what to do in that regard.

Please keep us in your prayers, thoughts, send us good vibes, we could use any of it this upcoming week.

tl;dr? Auggie has a tethered spinal cord and is having surgery July 28 to correct it. We could really use any prayers, thoughts, good vibes sent our way. I’m not prepared as a mother to go through this again and I haven’t prepared Auggie either and I don’t know how to do so.

Thanks friends!!!

Long time, no see.

Except Auggie can see “so much better now”!

The past few months have just been a rollercoaster ride for Auggie and our family. The good, the not so good, the ugly, the GREAT! It would take an hour to update you all on the events since Auggie rang the bell (and proceeded to get the flu).

So here’s the reader’s digest version:

-Port removal surgery was March 12 and everything went amazing! In and out with no complications!

-Auggie has loved every second of “preschool” and was so sad for it to end for the summer. We made some amazing friends and came out of our shell big time! Some of our friends will be returning in the fall, but a lot are moving on to kindergarten. We’re hoping to make some new friends and we can’t wait!

-Mommy had surgery June 9th, all went well. Auggie always likes to have his say in how things go, of course, and popped up with WHOOPING COUGH of all things the week before. All is well now, thankfully, after a round of antibiotics. The cough is lingering just a hair here and there at this point.

-How did he get whooping cough, you ask? Well, we’re not entirely sure where he would’ve picked it up from, BUT we did learn shortly beforehand that the chemo wiped out his vaccines he received before he got sick. So, he will need to get those again. There are guidelines we have to follow as far as the timeline on when he can, but, with that in mind, we decided to keep him out of “big preschool” for the fall and we’ll reassess when it comes time for spring.

-Our cat, Beans, recently got very sick and we had to make the tough choice to surrender her to a family who was able to pay for her life-saving surgery. Though we know for fact that she is so much better and doing amazing with her new family, we still miss her like crazy and it was a loss for our family indeed.

-As you can see, Auggie got glasses!!

I think that’s that for now. Hang tight, though, for an important update regarding an upcoming surgery for Mr Auggie. Sigh.

Auggie is on the mend!

We ended up taking two ER trips with the flu, since he had good fevers, to get antibiotics to prevent any line infection. But we were otherwise able to manage him at home like a normal kid with the flu.

It has circled around the whole family at this point and we are ready for the germs to leave our house!

Word to wise, stay home if you’re not feeling good, wash those hands, and may the odds be in your favor!

They let us come home. Flue A, just like everyone else. Thx for all the positive thoughts. Here is a sleepy Auggie:

Special request.

Biggest brother Nolan tested positive for Flu A on Saturday night. Mommy tested positive for Covid Sunday night. Zane woke up sick this morning but not positive for anything yet. But he’s got a fever.

With Auggie still having his port, if he gets a temp of 100.4 or higher, we still need to go to the ER, even if we know he’s got the flu or something similar.

Please send all the prayers and good vibes that we can avoid Auggie getting sick. We literally kept Auggie home for like the past month to keep him from getting sick and missing his bell ringing. But sometimes these things just happen and they can’t be prevented.
