A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Morgan Cochran RN! 🌼 Morgan was nominated by a patient, this is what they had to say:

"As a nurse you are supposed to care for patients a certain way, have love for patients and love for your job. Well Morgan is the true definition of a person or should we say a nurse who loves her job and her patients. From the moment she started caring for me, I felt nothing but love and great care.

I was brought to the ICU because I stopped breathing and my heart stopped. I was getting stressed. Morgan recognized this and to over my care and tried to meet all my needs immediately. She made sure I was happy afterwards. Throughout the whole shift she has been so wonderful. Jumping to all my needs and wants was so great of her. Her nursing skills are wonderful and she deserves this award. Her bedside manner is excellent and her compassion for her job is great. She is the perfect nurse to represent Norton Audubon Hospital. "

Thank you for all that you do, Morgan! 💙

Our team members exemplify compassionate care every day. We are proud to share this inspiring story of one of our dedicated employees making a difference. 💙

For 30 years, Norton Heart & Vascular Institute patient Jerome Nelson worked as a barber—until neuropathy in his hands made it too difficult to continue. During his visits to our Heart Failure Clinic, he often talked about his passion for cutting hair with medical assistant Jeremy McCants, who also enjoyed cutting hair for friends in college.

Last week, while hospitalized, Mr. Nelson asked if Jeremy could give him a haircut. That night, at 8 p.m., his hospital room door opened to Jeremy, clippers in hand, ready to make it happen.

Because sometimes, it’s the little things—when you look good, you feel good! ❤️

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Amina Sharif Ahmed, LPN! 🌼 Amina was nominated by two patients, this is what they had to say:

"Most of my nurses have been great but she stood out. She treated me like I was a person and not just a patient. She would walk the floor and she’d ask me about me not the patient. Also, she would remember things I called out for and bring them to me when she came to give me my meds or draw labs. As a patient sometimes you feel like you are a burden, but she treated me like a friend. She would explain things to me in detail and tell me my test results. I have had health issues my entire life and had really great nurses by Amina is the best nurse I have ever had."

"I am a spinal cord paraplegic. I come to Norton Audubon Hospital often. I have to go to my doctor's appointments by a wheelchair van and come to the ER by ambulance. When I come to Norton Audubon Hospital, Amina makes sure I get the best care. She always goes over and above board to make sure I receive the best care possible for a speedy recovery, so I can return home to my family. She follows the doctor’s order as close as possible and makes sure I get my medicine promptly. She watches over me very closely."

Thank you for all that you do, Amina! 🎉

Congratulations to our recent BEE award winner, Kaitlyn Fortner, PCA! 🐝 🏆 Kaitlyn was nominated by three of co-workers! Here is what Kaitlyn's nominators had to say:

"Kaitlyn is always the first one to jump up and help not only the patients, but staff as well. She always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Kaitlyn exudes our values here at Norton and goes above and beyond."

"Kaitlyn gives 100% every single shift she works. She is eager to help learn and has an absolute heart of gold. She never is seen sitting. She always jumps when something is needed. Even if it is not her patient. I have been a nurse for 26 years and I can genuinely say she is one of the best PCAs I’ve ever had the pleasure to work alongside."

"Kaitlyn has always been there when I needed her. I have never seen Kaitlyn reluctant to help anyone, employee or staff and she does it with respect and grace. The patients are never a burden and I’ve never seen her treat them as a task to finish and leave. When Kaitlyn and I have patients together, they sing her praises regarding her care, compassion and patience. She is truly a lovely, caring soul who makes every shift brighter."

Congratulations, Kaitlyn and thank you for all you do! 🎉

Did you know Kentucky leads the nation in new lung cancer cases and lung cancer-related deaths? Dr. Samantha Baah, spoke with WAVE about the advanced technology at Norton Healthcare that helps our care teams spot it earlier.

Previously, doctors couldn’t reach all the areas of the lungs and had to wait for problem spots to grow. Now, they have the technology that can detect lung cancer early.

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winners, Peter Bardgett, RN! 👏 🌼 Here is some of what Peter's nominator had to share:

"It is in my absolute opinion that not every Daisy winner needs to have done some grandiose gesture of caring. Choosing to simply do what is right and what all patient's deserve, despite the circumstances, should be worthy of the award as well. This is what Peter does. He does what is right. He treats his patients with respect and dignity, regardless of who they are or what they have done."

Thank you for all that you do, Peter! 🎊

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Amaya Yantis, RN! 👏 🌼 Here is some of what Amaya's nominator had to share:

"Amaya's dedication to her patients goes far beyond the typical standards of care; she embodies empathy and compassion, particularly evident in her interaction with an elderly female patient, who arrived in our ER feeling not only unwell but also profoundly lonely.

During our busy shift, Amaya was assigned to care for the patient, who had come in with a range of symptoms that required immediate attention. However, it quickly became evident that her physical ailment was not the only issue she faced; the patient radiated a deep sense of isolation. As Amaya tended to her medical needs, she recognized that what she really and truly required was companionship. Busy ER environments can sometimes overlook the emotional and psychological dimensions of patient care, but not for Amaya.

Instead of simply performing her duties and moving on to the next patient, Amaya took the time to connect with the patient on a personal level. What truly sets Amaya apart is her extraordinary ability to create a safe space for her patients.

The bond that formed between them was heartwarming to witness. As she wrapped up her duties, Amaya made a thoughtful gesture that transcended her role as a nurse. She exchanged phone numbers with her, offering her the promise of friendship beyond the hospital walls. This simple act of kindness meant the world to the patient, who had not had someone to talk to for far too long. Amaya's decision to reach out in such a personal way is a testament to her belief that healthcare entails more than just addressing physical ailments; it also involves nurturing the human spirit.

Amaya demonstrated that she is not just an ER nurse; Her actions remind us that illness can take a toll not only on the body but also on the soul. By taking the time to truly see and hear the patient. Amaya created a healing atmosphere that fostered both medical recovery and emotional reassurance."

Thank you for all that you do! 🎊

A love story that came full circle. 🌹 Bonny and Robert Parker’s journey together began decades ago, but life took them in different directions—until fate brought them back to each other. Now, as Bonny faces a life-changing diagnosis, their love shines brighter than ever.

With the help of her care team at Norton Audubon Hospital, Bonny and Robert renewed their vows in a touching bedside ceremony. When her care team found out about the vow renewal plan, they made it their mission to make the event — happening that day — as beautiful as possible.

Bonny's advice? “When you love someone, let them know it — let them know it a lot.” 💙 Read more about their story here: https://bit.ly/3CLKDHN

A big congratulations to our recent DAISY Award winner, Chase Simpson, RN! 👏 🌼 Here is some of what Peter's nominator had to share:

"I have been hospitalized numerous times for various procedures. Although this was my first time at Audubon Hospital, I can say without a doubt that it was my best experience ever. What made my experience positive was the wonderful nursing staff. I knew immediately that Chase was special. He really went above and beyond from the moment he stepped into my room. Not only was her the most personable nurse I’ve ever interacted with, he was always one step ahead of everything. He treated me like a person and not just a task to accomplish. He made sure my pain was taken care of and was responsive to the couple of times I reached out for something. He was so caring, kind, patient, professional and all around a really awesome guy. He got me ready to leave and then personally walked to the pharmacy on the other side of the building to make sure I got my prescription. Then he walked my wife and I out of the hospital to make sure we could find the parking garage. No other nurse in my experience had gone above and beyond the way Chase did. For that I am very grateful from the bottom of my heart. Thanks, Chase! You are the best."

Thank you for all that you do! 🎊
