Yesterday I did something I have feared for a long time. I fell **hard** during a run.
I turned a corner and hit some uneven sidewalk and went flying. All of the things I had on me went flying as well; keys, earbuds, wallet, phone… went in every direction.
I’ve tripped running many times but this was by far my most spectacular spill. I immediately popped up off the ground and looked all around to see who witnessed my airborne stunt.
Shockingly, the street was quiet, no cars, no pedestrians, no one lurking (or laughing) in the windows. I can’t believe I got away with it without witnesses. I was not unscathed, however, and my bleeding knee gave me away for the rest of the (hobbling) run home.
Here’s the thing: We all fall. ALL THE TIME.
Sometimes we fall and no one is watching. Sometimes we fall in front of an audience. Either way it hurts the same, we bleed the same, and we pop up and keep going. Sometimes we lay there for a minute and sometimes it takes awhile to get up.
But we get up.
This is Recovery Café Louisville. We fall (publicly or privately). Our hurt visible to everyone… and we get back up and keep moving forward. And we do it together.
Come, be a part of our community; we gather on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. (Schedule below)
