🌞🔥 Grilling Season is Here – Let’s Keep It Safe! 🔥🌞

As the weather warms up and grills fire up, it’s the perfect time to enjoy summer meals with family and friends. But food safety matters just as much as flavor.

Here are the key temperature rules you shouldn’t ignore:

🌡️ Cook meats to safe internal temperatures:

Ground beef: 160°F
Chicken (all poultry): 165°F
Pork & steak: 145°F (then let rest 3 minutes)
Hot dogs: Heat until steaming hot

❄️ Keep cold foods cold:

Below 40°F
Don’t leave food out longer than 2 hours (or 1 hour if over 90°F)

🔥 Keep hot foods hot:

Above 140°F until served

🧊 Pro tip: Use a food thermometer — guessing isn’t good enough when it comes to foodborne illness.

đźš« Avoid cross-contamination:

Use separate plates for raw and cooked meats
Wash hands and surfaces often

Food poisoning can take down an entire household fast — and it’s completely preventable with a few simple habits.

Stay safe, enjoy your summer, and grill smart! 🍔🌽

🦟 Tick-Borne Illnesses Are on the Rise – Protect Yourself & Your Family
As the weather warms up, ticks become more active—and so do the illnesses they carry. In our region, common tick-borne diseases include:
Lyme disease
Rocky Mountain spotted fever
Ehrlichiosis
Anaplasmosis
These infections can cause fever, fatigue, headaches, body aches—and if untreated, can lead to serious complications.

Alpha-gal syndrome caused by the Lonestar tick causes mild to intense allergies to red meat, such as beef, pork or lamb. It also can cause reactions to other foods that come from mammals, such as dairy products or gelatin.
As of the most current Nebraska public health data:
~15 confirmed alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) cases have been reported in Nebraska in 2025 (year-to-date)
About 60% of those cases involved serious anaphylactic reactions
Important context:
2025 was essentially the first year Nebraska started formally tracking/reporting AGS, so these numbers are very likely an undercount
The condition is rapidly increasing nationwide and spreading north/west with tick expansion
Neighboring states are already seeing higher numbers (e.g., Iowa reported ~76 cases)

🌿 Where Are Ticks Found?
Ticks live in:
Tall grass and weeds
Wooded areas
Leaf piles
Even your own backyard

🛡️ How to Prevent Tick Bites
Simple prevention goes a long way:
Use EPA-approved insect repellents (like DEET or picaridin)
Wear long sleeves & pants when outdoors
Tuck pants into socks when in tall grass
Choose light-colored clothing (easier to spot ticks)
Shower and check your body within 2 hours of being outside
Don’t forget to check kids, pets, and scalp areas

⚠️ When to Seek Care
Call or come in if you notice:
A bullseye rash or unusual skin rash
Fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms after a bite
Persistent fatigue or joint pain
Early treatment matters. Don’t wait it out.

✔️ Bottom line: Avoiding the bite is your best defense. Stay aware, check yourself, and act early if something feels off.
If you have concerns about a tick bite or symptoms, we’re here to help—same-day appointments available.

🌿 Seasonal Allergies Acting Up? Try These Simple Home Remedies First! 🌿

If you’re dealing with sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion this time of year—you’re not alone. Before jumping straight to medications, here are some tried-and-true ways to get relief at home:

âś… Rinse it out
Use a saline nasal spray or neti pot daily to flush out pollen and irritants.

âś… Shower after being outside
Pollen sticks to your skin, hair, and clothes—don’t bring it to bed with you.

âś… Keep windows closed
As nice as fresh air is, it also brings allergens inside. Use A/C if possible.

âś… Local honey (optional support)
Some people find small daily amounts helpful for building tolerance over time.

âś… Stay hydrated
Thin mucus = better drainage and less congestion.

âś… Change air filters regularly
Your home’s air quality matters more than you think.

âś… Try steam or humidification
Warm showers or a humidifier can help open nasal passages.

💊 If symptoms persist beyond a couple weeks, worsen, or interfere with sleep and daily function—it may be time to step up treatment. Antihistamines, nasal sprays, or allergy testing may be needed.

📍Don’t just suffer through it—there are options that work.

If you want, I can make a shorter version or one branded specifically for your clinic.

🚨 American Diabetes Alert Day 🚨

Today is your reminder to know your numbers and take control of your health.

Diabetes often develops quietly—many people have prediabetes for years without symptoms. By the time you feel it, damage may already be happening.

⚠️ Risk factors to watch for:
• Increased belly weight
• Family history of diabetes
• Fatigue or low energy
• High blood pressure or cholesterol
• History of gestational diabetes

🧪 Simple labs can tell you a lot:
• Fasting glucose
• A1C
• Fasting insulin (this one matters more than most people realize)

👉 Prediabetes is reversible.
👉 Type 2 diabetes is often manageable—and sometimes improvable—with the right approach.

đź’ˇ What actually works:
• Prioritize protein and whole foods
• Reduce processed carbs and sugar
• Build muscle (this is your metabolic engine)
• Improve sleep and stress
• Consider targeted supplementation when appropriate

This is not about perfection—it’s about early awareness and consistent action.

If you haven’t checked your labs in the last year, this is your sign.
