🦷 Cavities are the #1 chronic disease in children, but here’s the good news.... cavities are preventable! It takes a team; parents, dentists, AND doctors can all help keep your child’s smile healthy for life.

Pro Tip: Ask your pediatrician about fluoride varnish at your child’s next visit! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends it 2–4 times a year for kids up to age 5 to help protect those little teeth!

We were proud to honor 8-year-old Carter as the Norton Children’s Superhero of the Match during the Racing Louisville FC game on Oct. 10!

When Carter was 5, his parents noticed something wasn’t right — he was tired, had frequent headaches, and didn’t have the energy to play like usual. At Norton Children’s, doctors discovered a brain tumor that was causing extra fluid around his brain.

With care from Dr. Gump, Dr. Mikey, and Dr. Ferguson, Carter began treatment, and after 2½ years of chemotherapy, his tumor has shrunk by nearly 60%!

Now thriving in second grade and back to playing soccer, basketball, baseball, and cross country, Carter is a true example of courage and healing.

Help us celebrate Carter in the comments and cheer on all the brave kids receiving care at Norton Children’s!

Lesley Hass began her career while a senior at Spalding University in Louisville, working in the burn unit at Norton Children’s Hospital through the registry program. šŸ„šŸ‘©ā€āš•ļø

After earning her nursing degree , she joined the 3 South Unit just in time to witness a major moment in the hospital’s history: the move into the current facility. She recalls New Year’s Eve of 1985 šŸŽ†, when patients were transported into the new building with assistance from the National Guard!

Over the years, Lesley cared for patients on 4 West and 5 West before moving to the cardiac catheterization lab in 2000, where she still serves today! Her decades of experience span clinical innovation and operational evolution, including memories of hand-charting every two hours in alternating ink colors for day and evening shifts.

Thank you, Lesley, for your 45 years of excellence, adaptability, and heart-centered care. šŸ’™ šŸ‘

From heartbreak to healing, Courtney’s journey is one of strength, love and purpose.

After losing her son Owen, who spent much of his life in our care, Courtney found inspiration in the compassion of our respiratory therapy team. Today, she’s walking the same halls at Norton Children’s Hospital, not as a mom of a patient, but as a respiratory therapy apprentice, honoring Owen’s legacy with every step šŸ’™.
