My Story

I started in graduate school in 1990, so for almost 30 years, my passion has been to help people. Actually, my passion to help people started long before that. As a pre-teen and teenager, while I was trying to “figure out life”, my mother was pursuing a degree in counseling. She was constantly sharing with me what she was learning and I was so intrigued. I learned a great deal from her, tried to apply it to my own life, and attempted to help others. I became an “unofficial” counselor at a pretty young age but had much to learn personally and professionally before I became an “official” one!

My father was an educator and inspired me to value learning. He taught me many life lessons. He also taught me how to write a research paper, and I will be forever grateful for that! Both of my parents had a very strong faith and thought it was most important to live out that faith and use their “gifts” to make a difference in the world and in the lives of the people they served. They were my inspiration.

As a young person, my motto in life became “never stop growing and learning”. (It sounds like a combination of what my parents modeled. ) Growing emotionally, relationally, and spiritually has been a driving force in my life.

Almost thirty years after starting in the field of Counseling Psychology, here I am. I’ve journeyed with many clients. Heard lots of stories. Had a front row seat to see lives transformed. People ask me “how do you do this all day? What? Journey with people as they heal and grow in life and relationships? Help people experience lasting emotional, relational and spiritual transformation? It’s an honor and a privilege. Counseling can be hard work for the client and the therapist. I believe it is well worth it!
