We stop asking our partners, friends, or family to carry what isn’t theirs. We allow love to be love — not caretaking, rescuing, or guessing.

Yesterday, my sweet client left this world far too soon—just 28 years old—after facing stage four colon cancer. Her absence is already felt deeply in the community. To have been her support—and to support those who love her through this—has been a profound honor.

I wanted to share a story about her —she adored Harley & would light up around her, often posting little glimpses of their time together. I used to only bring Harley into the office just once or twice a week. But one day, she came in, looked around, and with this mix of annoyance and audacity 😏 asked me: “Where’s your dog?”

When I told her Harley was at home that day, she gave me a look and I thought she might leave. 😆 Since that day, Harley became a constant presence in the office — but *especially* for her đŸ©·

She taught me that the real treasures live in the small things—the quick wit that sparks a smile, the comfort of a dog resting close, the love that weaves itself quietly through the day. The little things *are* the language of love. Those little moments become anchors of memory.đŸ€

May her memory be a blessing.

We’re allowed to say no.
Even if it disappoints someone.
Even if it’s uncomfortable.
Even if we used to say yes.

Saying no can be an act of nervous system regulation.
An act of honoring our limits.
An act of choosing ourselves—gently, bravely, and without apology.

At first it might feel hard.
But over time, it becomes a kind of homecoming. đŸ™ŒđŸ»

Early on in my group work career, I used to say something so cheesy it became an ongoing joke with many of my clients:
“You’ve got to feel it to heal it.”

And you know what?
I still believe it—with my whole heart.

We live in a culture that teaches us to hold it together, stay strong, push it down, and keep going.
But emotional suppression isn’t strength—it’s survival.

At Sunshine Healing, we don’t pathologize emotion—we honor it.
We name what hurts.
We sit with what’s real.
We feel it all: gently, slowly, without shame.

Because healing doesn’t come through avoidance.
It comes through presence.
Through softness.
Through allowing.
