After Accident Care - David Changaris, MD

After Accident Care - David Changaris, MD Concussion (mTBI) diagnosis and treatment. Advanced Diagnostic Technology and Treatment We evaluate and treat general trauma after car accidents.

We render "day after medical care" not "emergency-same-day-care". I treated trauma patients for years while at the University of Louisville. In private practice I offer my expertise to those needing expert care after car accidents. Our staff includes a counselor for post trauma stress, physical therapy, massage therapy, brain injury-concussion evaluation. We have on campus a full time radiology technician, registered and practice nurses. We treat several hundred shoulder and knee injuries every year. We work with many local orthopedists, recognizing that most orthopedists will not see patients who have had motor vehicular accidents. I have extensive experience in pediatric neurosurgery and feel very comfortable evaluating children. I have strong professional ties with local pediatric neuros. If you have a headache, your probably had a concussion. We offer ANAM testing used to evaluate our soldiers in the field after a blow to the head. Having worked over 30 years in Louisville, I have clear opinions concerning legal support after motor vehicular accidents. If you were a patient of mine we would discuss this frankly. I have treated many personal injury lawyers and their families who have sustained car injuries.

"In conclusion, we have demonstrated that metallic nanoparticles can be specifically translocated to neuronal cell bodies using axonal terminals located in the skin via simple topical application."

The gut and skin have many neurons that take particles into the brain and spinal cord. Now we know the chemicals that our microbiome uses to regulate group specific invasive activity can make us dumb and stiff"

"These findings offer the first demonstration that a quorum sensing molecule specifically produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa is centrally active and influences cell signaling and behavior. Quorum sensing autoinducers might represent new interkingdom signaling molecules between ecological communities of commensal, symbiotic, and pathogenic microorganisms and the host CNS."

Microgram quantities of this molecule caused the mouse to not respond for 4 hours. Pseudomonas is a bacteria present on all of us and a major problem within hospitals. It is now one of thousands on our body making quorum sensing molecules. This is the first tested for a direct effect upon the brain. It is always producing this quinolone... it is just a matter of how many.

CLA cleansers not only kill Pseudomonas at ordinary hand washing concentrations but block quorum sensing activation of Pseudomonas slime formation at residual concentrations.

Consider the skin and gut poses the largest unexplored source of neurotoxins. Now we know the signals used by our microbiome to regulate itself can make us stiff and dumb.

Potassium conjugated linoleic acid or potassium linoleate (isomerized), 86 mM, satisfies the United States Environmental Protection Agency protocol hospital disinfectant for non-porous surfaces MB-05-16 with one-minute treatment. This stringent protocol requires separate preparations of Staphylococc...

We use our in-house Open MRI machine to help diagnosis mTBI. Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI is a powerful, painless, noninvasive medical imaging tool that can detect subtle changes in the body that may result from an accident. With innovative 3-D imaging, MRI can accurately identify abnormalities due to its deep tissue pe*******on. The MRI can produce detailed images of almost every internal structure of the human body, including organs, bones, muscles, and blood vessels. An MRI can detect swelling of brain tissue and other changes that can indicate areas of trauma. With high-resolution scanning, MRI can help to accurately diagnose concussion and its associated complications with greater accuracy and precision. The 3-D image produced by an MRI scan eliminates many of the problems associated with a flat image produced by an X-ray or CT scan. The MRI creates images using a large magnet and radio waves rather than radiation.

Another tool we use is Posturography. Posturography is a noninvasive diagnostic tool used for quantifying balance and gait performance. The test measures sway using advanced sensors and sophisticated software while the patient stands on a platform with tilt or linear displacement of the platform. This is done both with eyes open and eyes closed and with movement of the visual surround on both a hard surface and cushioned surface. By gathering objective information about the patient's balance control, Posturography can be used to evaluate post-concussive symptoms, such as dizziness, balance deficits, and postural sway. Posturography offers a reliable and cost-effective method to diagnose and treat patients with MTBI and is used to create tailored rehabilitation plans.

We use VNG: Videonystagmography (VNG) is an advanced and effective tool for diagnosing mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) with accuracy and efficiency. VNG is an advanced form of testing that provides an in-depth evaluation of the vestibular and ocular motor control systems. VNG measures a type of involuntary eye movement called nystagmus. These movements can be slow or fast, steady, or jerky. Nystagmus causes your eyes to move to the side to side or up and down, or both. It happens when the brain gets conflicting messages from your eyes and the balance system in the inner ear. These conflicting messages can cause dizziness. Using VNG, healthcare professionals can accurately diagnose several MTBI-related conditions, including post-traumatic vestibular syndrome, balance disorders, and vertigo. Unlike traditional tests, VNG does not require any radiation or injections, making it a safe and efficient choice for diagnoses. With VNG, you can expect accurate results, timely diagnoses, and an effective treatment plan.

Our commitment to you is to put your needs and your recovery at the center of everything that we do. Accidents are traumatic. Using the best available technology, we will diagnose your injuries and develop a treatment plan to aid in your recovery.

Every accident is different. When an accident occurs, energy is absorbed by the body. Even a low-speed accident or fall, may result in significant injury. Obvious injuries such as broken bones, cuts, and abrasions can be quickly diagnosed and treated. Other, less visible injuries may take several days or even weeks to manifest. Less visible injuries such as organ injury, soft tissue damage, fractures and MTBI -Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (concussion), may require additional testing to confirm and may require significant time to heal.

A concussion is an injury to the brain that results in temporary loss of normal brain function. All injuries to the brain are serious. Concussions can be caused by direct trauma to the head. They can also occur because of rapid acceleration-deceleration of the head, such as in whiplash injuries or blast injuries like experienced in a war zone. Concussions may result in a loss of consciousness; however, this is not always the case. The leading causes of concussions in the United States are sports injuries, falls and auto accidents. The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not show up immediately. Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer.

Our #1 goal is to help you return to your life prior to the accident

Increasing anxiety 3-6 months after a significant car accident has evolved to be a major symptom of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Early treatment with balance training and nutritional support truly helps. Without, you may face the brutal reality of progressive increasing anxiety, balance disorders and loss of focus over 3-5 years.

Early on, after the accident, the most reliable signs of mTBI are headaches and dizziness. MRI and CT are nearly always normal. Our artificial intelligence eye tracking software picks this up nearly every time. U of Pittsburgh is now using the same system for identifying Sports Concussions and the Military using the same system for suspected brain injuries. The military has just about given up on neuropsych testing...though still accepted in rare settings.
