Warmer weather has a way of making everyone want to get outside. And if you've been managing chronic pain through a tough winter, the pull toward movement and fresh air can feel especially strong.

Getting active outdoors CAN be part of a healthy pain management routine, the key is listening to your body and moving in a way that works for where you are right now (not where you were two years ago, and not where you want to be next month).

If you're easing back into outdoor activity this spring:

☀️ Start shorter than you think you need to; you can always build up
☀️ Walk on flat surfaces before tackling hills or uneven ground
☀️ Wear supportive footwear
☀️ Don't let a good day trick you into overdoing it
☀️ Remember, rest after activity is not giving up, it's part of the process

Good days are meant to be enjoyed. 💙 If you have questions about what movement is right for your specific situation, that's exactly what we're here for.

“I've been to pain management at a couple of other offices before coming here, and this place has definitely been the best.

Dr. Lamborn is amazing. He makes you aware of everything he is about to do during the procedures. But also having a General conversation to distract you from the pain of the injections. His assistant is also very polite and caring. I definitely won't be going to any other office.” - J.J.

If your pain feels worse during allergy season, there's a real reason for that (and it's not just coincidence).

When your immune system reacts to pollen and other allergens, it releases inflammatory chemicals throughout your body. If you're already managing a condition that involves inflammation, like arthritis, fibromyalgia, or nerve pain, that extra layer can genuinely amplify what you're already feeling.

This is one of those things that often gets dismissed ("it's just allergies"), but it's worth paying attention to.

A few things that can help:

🌸 Track when your pain spikes — is it tied to high pollen days?
🌸 Talk to your doctor about whether managing your allergies could help your pain
🌸 Stay hydrated and prioritize rest on high-symptom days
🌸 Don't push through a bad day just because it's a "nice day outside"

Your body is doing a lot right now. Give it some grace, and if you're noticing a pattern, bring it up at your next appointment. We want to know.

Spring can still be wonderful. We just want to help you actually enjoy it. 🌼

There's something really healing about getting your hands in the soil after a long winter. But for anyone living with chronic pain, the first few days of spring yard work can leave you paying for it for a week.

Here's the thing: it's not that you can't garden. It's just about giving your body a chance to ease in.

A few things worth remembering this season:

🌱 Warm up before you dig in, your joints need time to wake up
🌱 Take breaks more often than you think you need to
🌱 Kneel on a pad or use raised beds to protect your back and knees
🌱 Switch positions and tasks frequently to avoid overloading one area
🌱 Don't try to "catch up" on everything in one weekend

You know your body. If something doesn't feel right, listen to that. And if spring activity is consistently causing flares, let's talk; there may be adjustments to your plan that can help you stay active without the aftermath.

If your pain tends to flare when life gets overwhelming, you're not imagining it. Stress and chronic pain are deeply connected; when your nervous system is on high alert, it can actually amplify pain signals and make everything feel more intense.

It's a cycle a lot of our patients know too well: stress makes the pain worse, and pain makes stress harder to manage.

Some things that can genuinely help break the cycle:

💙 Gentle movement (even just a short walk)
💙 Deep breathing or guided relaxation
💙 Talking to someone you trust, or your care team
💙 Being honest at your appointments about what's going on in your life, not just your body

You don't have to manage your stress perfectly. But if it's adding to your pain burden, that's something we want to know about and help you address. You deserve care that looks at the whole picture.

We're here for all of it. 💙

That shooting pain down your leg? It might be your sciatic nerve. 🦵

Sciatica is one of the most common sources of chronic lower back and leg pain, and one of the most misunderstood.

Here's what to know:

What it feels like:
◇ Sharp, burning, or shooting pain from the lower back through the buttock and down one leg
◇ Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the leg or foot
◇ Pain that worsens with sitting, bending forward, or even sneezing

What's actually happening:
The sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in your body, is being compressed or irritated, usually by a herniated disc, bone spur, or tight muscle.

What helps:
◇ Targeted movement and stretching (not bed rest)
◇ Heat or ice on the lower back
◇ Working with a pain management specialist to identify and treat the root cause

If you've been dealing with this kind of pain for more than a few weeks, it's worth getting evaluated.

"I have been a patient at SiPC for two years. Each month, I have been continually impressed by their professionalism & strong communication. Their online patient portal is easy to use & so much better than leaving voicemails or making calls trying to reach a real person.

They have developed a strong internal model of care that is often lacking in other healthcare entities. The team focuses on the patient & how, through different modalities, they can assist the patient in working to improve their quality of life in a safe & effective manner. I'm very blessed to have found this team of people, and I can't recommend them enough." – C.B.

Poor sleep makes pain worse. More pain makes sleep harder. 😴

This cycle is one of the most exhausting parts of living with chronic pain, and one of the most common. Here's what's actually happening: when your body doesn't get restorative sleep, your pain threshold lowers. You feel more of what's already there.

A few things worth trying:

🔹 Keep a consistent sleep and wake time — yes, even on weekends
🔹 Wind down for 30 minutes before bed: dim lights, no screens
🔹 If hip or low back pain wakes you up, try a pillow between your knees
🔹 Cool the room to 65–68°F — it supports deeper, more restorative sleep
🔹 If pain is waking you up every night, that's worth a conversation with your provider

You're not just tired. Your body is trying to heal, and sleep is part of the treatment.

Have questions about how pain management can help you sleep and feel better?
