Last month, we had a wonderful time partnering with the University of Louisville Medical School Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)!
First- and second-year medical students joined us for a group scribe training led by our veteran scribes and current medical students, Junaid Shahzad and Ranga Chennakesavula. Dr. Hammer was also present to share valuable insights from the provider’s perspective.
We had five enthusiastic students join us on a Friday afternoon, and the session was a great success!
We always enjoy collaborating with the medical school and appreciate opportunities for community engagement and hands-on learning.

Meet Lisa! Lisa has been a valued volunteer at FCC for the past 9 months, bringing with her over 30 years of experience as a hospital RN. After retiring from nursing and spending her last working years in hospital administration, Lisa found herself drawn back to patient interaction — something she missed deeply.
“I chose FCC because it gives me the chance to connect with patients again,” she says. “The self-scheduling is flexible, and the 4-hour shifts fit easily into my life. It keeps me using the basic nursing skills that are intuitive to me — and that truly fills my heart.”
What Lisa enjoys most about volunteering at FCC is the people — both patients and staff. “The team is so easy to work with, and I love meeting patients of all ages and backgrounds,” she shares. “Even though I hadn’t spoken Spanish in over 50 years, the patients are patient with me, and sometimes we teach each other! Seeing repeat patients feels like reconnecting with old friends.”
Outside of FCC, Lisa loves spending time outdoors. She and her husband recently traded in their camper for Airbnb cabins, enjoying walks through old-growth forests and exploring new places. At home in Simpsonville, where they've lived for the past decade, Lisa tends a large flower garden that surprises her every year.
Family is also a big part of her life. With four daughters and seven grandchildren — three of whom live close by in Midway, KY — there's always someone to visit or play with!

In Memoriam: Mary Lee Fischer

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lee Fischer, one of the esteemed co-founders of our clinic.

Mary Lee's vision, leadership, and dedication were instrumental in establishing the foundation upon which our clinic stands today. From its inception, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to ensuring that quality, compassionate care was accessible to all. Her strategic insight, coupled with her ability to inspire those around her, set a standard of excellence that continues to guide our work.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Fischer family and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. Her legacy endures in the countless lives she touched, the programs she helped to build, and the mission she so passionately championed.

We encourage you to read her obituary which details the many accomplishments and milestones of her remarkable life.

Loved dearly by her close-knit family and friends, Mary Lee Hardesty Fischer quietly passed from this life to the next on August 8; at home and...
