Numbers Game:

👉🏽US is now at 1 in 35 kids with an diagnosis.

✅ 1 in 35 = 2.86 percent (kids with autism in US, 2023)
✅ 1 in 10,000 = 0.01 percent (kids with autism in US, 1975)
➡️ 2.86% is 286x higher than 0.01.
..This means autism prevalence is nearly 300x higher than it was in 1975. 👎🏽 🤬

➡️ Compare this to other things that have changed since 1975:

✅ Median new home price in 1975 was $32,000.... An increase of 286x higher would mean a median new home price today would be $9,152,000.

That's just one illustration of how the increase in has utterly blown away anything imaginable back in 1975 (when I was 15, and I remember, there simply were no kids with an autism diagnosis even in my public high school with 2000 or so students). Saying "1 in 35" sounds small, and misleads parents, teachers, doctors, and policy makers to believe that these numbers aren't so bad. But they're really bad, and they are not explained by saying we have better diagnostics. We have to do better!
