Imagine arriving to your first physical therapy appointment in a wheelchair and then walking your daughter down the aisle just 10 months later.

That was Larry Heemskerk’s goal when he came to physical therapy back in September. Larry had a history of dizzy spells as well as some impairments in his gait and balance. Working with Physical Therapists Tori Searcy and Alissa Milos, Larry slowly gained his strength back with exercises like standing, marching with weights and resisted cable column walking.

Throughout their time together, Tori and Larry agreed on just about everything except two things: how many laps of walking they were going to do each day and which team was going to win the Big Game. Despite their disagreements, Larry was ultimately the winner, as he completed his rehabilitation and successfully walked his daughter down the aisle. He even took part in the father-daughter dance with his daughter, Danielle.

Larry returned after the wedding to express his gratitude to Tori and Alissa. “You both did such a good job,” said Larry. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Frances Edwards had a complete replacement of her right knee. Post-surgery, she was looking to get back on her feet.

With the help of the team at our Campbellsville center, Frances has made huge progress. Now, she no longer needs her walker, she can bend her knee and walk better. While she's still using a cane, she is hopeful she'll be able to give it up soon.

"The staff are exceptional at their jobs," she shared. "They are so nice and patient with you. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I am so glad I chose KORT."

While playing volleyball, Victoria Richmond tore her labrum in her shoulder.

When Victoria is not on the court, she enjoys working with horses. However, due to this injury, she was unable to pursue her favorite hobbies.

Victoria turned to Physical Therapist Iverson Griffin at our Versailles center for recovery support.

"I remember the first day I was dry-needled at KORT," Victoria shared. "I was so scared."

Afraid of needles, dry needling felt daunting. The treatment uses a dry needle — a needle without medicine — to target muscular and connective tissues.

Her fear didn't stop her. Victoria pushed through with encouragement from others.

"It wasn't that bad and the willingness to support me was huge," she said.

Thanks to dry needling and hard work in physical therapy, Victoria feels great. She can work with horses and play volleyball again without pain.

Teammates from KORT Versailles, Physical Therapist Drew Stuber and Business Development Manager Chelsea Hartley, enjoyed supporting the Woodford County Chamber Of Commerce annual golf scramble. Drew provided golfers with stretching and injury screenings.

We all do it. In a rush, we run down the stairs.

Unfortunately for Debbie Nelson, she didn't get out the door a little faster. She fell down the steps, fractured her humerus at the top of her shoulder and needed to have it surgically repaired.

Debbie came to our Sellersburg center post-surgery, working with Physical Therapist Sam Barnett three weeks after her injury.

At that time, she had been in a sling full-time and hadn't moved her arm or shoulder. At one of her first appointments, Sam slowly and carefully rotated her arm in different directions for the first time in weeks, giving Debbie instant relief.

"My injury affected everything I did," Debbie shared, "from dressing, exercising to flossing my teeth."

After three months in physical therapy, those activities have become accessible again.

At 66, this was Debbie's first time undergoing physical therapy, so we are glad we could make her experience a positive one.
