NAMI Louisville wants to give J. Graham Brown School a big thank you for having us at your Mental Health Fair! We had an amazing time talking to your students and staff about mental health!

For the younger students we focused on emotions and talking about what causes different emotions and where we feel them in our body.

For the older students we highlighted the importance of support and had them identify who has supported them the most!

Thank you for also inviting the Wellness Wheels to join us on this day of mental health as well! NAMI Louisville sees a need in mental health within students and having the opportunity to bring mental health knowledge to them on wheels has been a big highlight of this project!

If you would like NAMI Louisville Wellness Wheels to visit you, please contact us at namilou@namilouisville.org

Surviving School: One Step at a Time

Building Community

Loneliness is a widespread issue among high school students, with around 40–60% reporting frequent feelings of social isolation, significantly impacting mental health.

Joining clubs, sports teams, or after-school activities has been proven to have a positive impact on students both academically and socially.

How can you help a student feel that they belong:

Having inclusive conversations and activities, finding out what you or the person you're helping is interested in, and having regular emotional check-ins.

Being surrounded by others with similar interests can go along way when bonding and conversation is surrounded by things you both love.

Taking the first step could be a simple as saying "Hi" or "Do you need anything?", could go a long way and be the start of a lifelong friend!
