The Healing Place Louisville

The Healing Place Louisville Reach individuals suffering from addiction, provide tools for recovery, and restore productive lives. The Healing Place truly is "where hope is found."

Whether you are someone struggling with addiction in your own life, looking to get help for a loved one, or searching for a recovery model that really works, we are here for you. Our program is unlike any other in the country. Because it's based on a social model - one that's about empowerment rather than entitlement - it is more than five times more effective than the national average at keeping people clean and sober. Best of all, it's open to everyone, and we maintain it with a far lower cost than most other facilities.

Today, we remember Dan Caudill, a friend and instrumental supporter of The Healing Place.

Dan believed deeply in second chances and in the power of compassion to change lives. His generosity helped strengthen our mission and ensured that hope, healing, and dignity were available to so many men and women on their recovery journey. Because of Dan, doors were opened, lives were restored, and futures were rewritten.
Beyond his support, Dan will be remembered for the heart behind his giving—one rooted in kindness, humility, and a sincere desire to see others thrive. His legacy lives on in every life touched through The Healing Place, and his impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dan’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Over the past several weeks, you’ve heard stories through the 12 Days of Healing You Made Happen, stories of honesty, hope, faith, courage, and perseverance.

As we look ahead to 2026, we do so with gratitude and excitement. There is important work ahead: welcoming more people into recovery, strengthening programs, and continuing to walk alongside individuals and families as they rebuild their lives.

From all of us at The Healing Place, thank you for the healing you made happen in 2025 and for the hope you carry forward into the year ahead.

Today, we close the 12 Days of Healing You Made Happen with a reflection on service from Jay Davidson, founder of The Healing Place.

“Service is the greatest example of unconditional love without expectations.”
From the very beginning, The Healing Place was built on the belief that recovery is sustained not just by receiving help, but by learning to serve others. Service creates connection, restores dignity, and reminds people that they matter.
“There is no greater honor than to serve your brothers and sisters. The blessing comes from that service.”
For Jay, service begins with something simple—but powerful: listening.
“The greatest joy is to be able to listen—to put your life on pause and sincerely listen.”

Awareness is seeing reality clearly — recognizing the impact of addiction and understanding what’s at stake.

For our Director of Mission Advancement, Drew Hayden Keelin, awareness comes from loving someone affected by addiction and witnessing, every day, how critical timely, compassionate care can be.
Because of our community, awareness leads to healing at The Healing Place.

Today, we’re honored to share what this principle means to Clint Jarboe, Executive Assistant and Special Projects Coordinator at The Healing Place.

Between the ages of 16 and 29, Clint was caught in a cycle of chronic relapse. It wasn’t until his family, supported by Al-Anon, allowed him to face the consequences of his addiction that he found his way to The Healing Place.
“My journey has taught me that perseverance is the act of getting back up when you have every reason to stay down.”
After completing the long-term program, Clint’s perseverance was tested again. He lived in an unsafe environment surrounded by triggers, and during that same year, he experienced the loss of his father. In the past, these circumstances would have pulled him back into addiction.
Instead, Clint stayed.
“I persevere today because no matter how dark the circumstances, healing is always possible if I keep showing up and doing the next right thing.”

Today, we’re honored to share what this principle means to
Colin Bostic, Property & Facility Manager at the Brady Center for Productive Living and an alumnus of The Healing Place.

For decades, Colin drifted through life—losing jobs and friendships, numbing regret, and watching years pass without purpose.

When he arrived at detox at The Healing Place, he was welcomed and began attending classes and meetings. That’s when he first encountered the idea of discipline—something he misunderstood at the time.
“Discipline to me was punishment.”
Over time, Colin’s understanding changed. Through guidance and consistency, he learned that discipline wasn’t about restriction—it was about care.
“Now I understand that discipline is the highest form of self-love.”
Today, discipline is a principal Colin keeps front and center each morning. It grounds his recovery and shapes how he lives and leads.

Today, we’re honored to share what this principle means to Dwon Terry, who has been part of The Healing Place community for over a year.

For Dwon, brotherly and sisterly love came into focus through the amends process—something that felt intimidating at first.
“I was nervous about making amends, but I’ve learned so much about myself through the process.”
Recovery taught Dwon that amends don’t always go the way we hope—but growth happens anyway.
“The painstaking part is when the amends don’t go the way you want. But nothing in God’s world happens by mistake.”
For someone who describes himself as having been “a hurricane” in his family, brotherly and sisterly love now means accountability, support, and the ability to truly show up.
“It feels good to show up sober and be there for your kids.”
Today, Dwon is surrounded by a community that walks with him in recovery

Today, we’re honored to share what this principle means to
Sommer Ross, Health Service Coordinator at The Healing Place.

Sommer came to The Healing Place in August of 2022; she spent much of her twenties incarcerated and separated from her family and daughter while battling addiction.

Since entering recovery, Sommer’s life has changed in powerful ways. She has regained custody of her daughter after eight years, maintained stable employment at The Healing Place for more than two years, and built a strong community of support.
“Humility is staying open to learn, grateful for my life, and allowing my actions to reflect the heart that I carry.”

Today, we’re honored to share what this principle means to
Tonya Pelfrey, Accounting Specialist at The Healing Place.

“To me, willingness means being open and receptive to something totally different—and accepting that my way may not be the right way.”
Recovery asks people to become teachable, to listen, to accept guidance, and to try a new path.
“You must keep an open mind and be teachable. This opens the door to some of the best experiences and lessons.”
For Tonya, willingness has led not only to growth, but to peace and connection.
“Not only do you find peace with this—you meet a lot of amazing people.”

Our Alumni celebrated their Christmas Party which was filled with laughter, fellowship, and the powerful reminder that recovery doesn’t end—it grows stronger when we stay connected. Seeing so many alumni come together to celebrate the season and support one another is what The Healing Place is all about.

The Alumni Council plays a vital role in creating moments like this—building community, giving back, and walking alongside those still on their recovery journey.

👉 Want to stay involved and make a difference? Consider joining the Alumni Council and be part of something that continues to change lives.

Our Story

The Healing Place truly is where hope is found. Every day, we provide food, shelter, clothing, and our nationally-recognized recovery program to 700 men and women at no cost to the client. All a person has to have is a desire to get sober. We want there to be no barriers to recovery.

Our unique program allows us to operate at a cost of $25 per client per day. 82 cents of every dollar goes directly to fund program services.

We at The Healing Place are committed to maintaining a professional environment of respect, compassion, trust, honesty, opportunity, and diversity to help change lives. The Healing Place does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any activities or operations.
