Personality-wise, Tracie Garacochea says she's no "grandma' who sits around and knits. No, Tracie, a 65-year-old with multiple sclerosis, performs impressive stunts at the skatepark in her wheelchair. All this, despite taking what she calls "a little tumble."

Tracie was attempting an otherwise routine run at the skatepark, when she lost control and face-planted onto the concrete. She broke her left elbow and wrist. She also had a separated shoulder and some "gnarly" scrapes on her face, as a friend described it.

Tracie began physical therapy with the spirit and determination of an elite athlete. She worked on progressive strengthening, stretching exercises to improve range of motion and received manual therapy to break up scar tissue. Only two months after the accident, she was back at the skatepark performing the trick that originally injured her. In fact, she says she feels even stronger than before.

Rachel Hamilton, a mother of three and a labor and delivery nurse, was weakened by a complex hernia surgery. She was no longer confident in herself at work or at home, so she knew she needed help to regain core strength.

When Rachel first attended physical therapy at KORT Sports Performance with CoreVia Pelvic Health Physical Therapist Teresa Smith, her core was so weak she wore a supportive binder around her stomach. She still had pain and soreness on her left side from the surgery, and it affected her so much that she temporarily switched responsibilities at work so they would be less physically demanding.

Wanting to be able to pick up her smallest child, to quickly respond to emergencies at work and to feel confident in her abilities again, Teresa made a care plan revolving around her goals.

About a month into her treatment, Rachel carried her 48-pound, 4 year old into the house from the car, something she was afraid she wouldn't be able to do again. Now, she carries her daughter down the hall to bed every night like she did prior to surgery.

"I tell all my co-workers and patients in labor and delivery that pelvic floor physical therapy should be something that anyone who's been pregnant should do," Rachel said, "it's worth it to invest in yourself!"
