Barbara ("Bebe") Jones Garrett entered peacefully into joy with The Lord on April 9, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia. She proudly turned 89 in January.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday April 14, 2026, in the Louisville City Cemetery with Rev. Tim Pendrey officiating followed by a gathering to honor her life at Providence Baptist Church 13778 GA Highway 88 W Avera, GA.
Bebe cherished her children and their families above all else. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and if any of them ever had a need, Bebe did all that she could to meet it. She said more than once that she loved her children more than life itself. Her grandchildren revere” Grandmommy” as a very important and everlasting influence in their lives. She was very proud of her four great-grandchildren.
Bebe was the oldest of five children born to her beloved parents John Amos Jones and Mattie Mae Raley Jones. She spent a great deal of time in the company of the family of her maternal grandparents John Frank and Mattie Belle Black Raley.
At a young age 10 Bebe started helping her father in his general store at the Grange crossroads, often describing herself as having "grown up in the store." She undertook all manner of jobs in the store including cashiering, merchandising, pumping gas and learning to drive. She and Mister Johnny were quite a pair together.
She began school in Grange and continued in Avera before graduating from Louisville Academy, 54. She also attended Providence Baptist Church and was baptized in the nearby Rocky Comfort Creek.
Bebe went to Atlanta to attend Georgia State University where she would meet and marry Robert O. (B0b) Garrett who was coincidentally from Sandersville, Georgia. Before starting their family, she worked at Western Electric in Atlanta.
Early on in Atlanta she wore a little black dress to see Elvis Presley at The Fox Theatre.
Tender-hearted, she laughed easily, had a great sense of humor, possessed a quick wit, was a great conversationalist and an avid reader. Bebe was fiercely independent, self-sufficient, strong, resilient, resourceful, persistent, and determined.
She was a great storyteller and enjoyed recounting stories of her youthful adventures with her large circle of cousins and siblings as well as retelling stories of time spent with her beloved maternal grandmother.
Technology captivated Bebe, and over time due her curiosity, intelligence and sheer persistence, she became a self-taught computer technician in her last role as Management Information Systems (MIS) Director of Jefferson EMC from which she retired in 2000.
She loved the invention of the computer, the Internet, the iPad and the iPhone and kept in daily contact with her family via text messages FaceTime calls.
Bebe loved to fish, could repair things around the house, hang wallpaper and bake a great Christmas fruitcake. She loved birds and developed an excellent mourning dove call. Her home was decorated with many pictures of birds.
For the last 7 months Bebe resided at the Barclay House of Augusta. She had previously lived in Louisville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Marietta, Jacksonville, and Miami. She will be dearly remembered.
