It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved UofL Health facility dog, Travis — affectionately known as “Good Boy.”
Travis was a Paws with Purpose dog who faithfully served at UofL Hospital for more than seven years. His career began in the outpatient physical therapy clinic, helping patients complete their exercises with encouragement, comfort and a wagging tail. He helped patients during sessions by reducing anxiety and helping them work through difficult tasks with his calming presence and unwavering love.
Following the retirement of his handler, Cathy Gerrish, PT, in 2024, Travis continued his calling in the hospital, visiting patients and families to provide emotional support during some of life’s most difficult moments. He spent a significant amount of time with trauma and palliative care patients, often offering quiet companionship through cuddles and his gentle presence. He also participated in honor walks, creating a calming presence for grieving families.
His extraordinary work was recognized by Chewy in 2020, but to those who knew him best, Travis’s greatest accomplishment was the comfort, hope and joy he brought to others every single day. Travis will be deeply missed, especially by the outpatient rehabilitation team, who showered him with countless treats, affection and love — all of which he returned in the way only a dog can.
Good boy, Travis. A life well-lived dedicated to serving others. You are and always will be deeply loved and missed. 🔗 ULHealth.co/42WVEQg
