Honest truth: I'm not going to tell you to stop using AI for your pet's health questions. I do it too.

But in the exam room, I see it lead people down rabbit holes and AI tends to pull up rare, unlikely diagnoses when 95% of the time it's something far more common. It just can't replicate 20 years of clinical practice.

Use it, but bring those questions to your vet. That conversation matters.

We are not immune. Both of my cats have gingivitis and they are absolutely not letting me brush their teeth in any normal way. And honestly? Fritz and Fiona are not getting a daily brushing. We're doing our best out here. 😅

So here's what I actually use instead: Perio Care. Just run it along the gumline and you're done. No wrestling required.

We get it. The before and afters are genuinely stunning and we are not immune to a good glow up. 😅

But here's the truth: anesthesia-free dentals don't clean under the gumline, which is where most of the disease actually lives. At $295 a cleaning, that's a lot of money for something that isn't getting to the root of the problem (literally).

And these are not a replacement for routine anesthetic dentals with your vet...not even close.

A "barely there" murmur, a broken tooth, and a cat who was one bad day away from a heart emergency. 🐱 I almost scheduled that dental surgery but I always want an echo before putting a pet under anesthesia if there's any question about their heart.

Here's something a lot of pet parents don't know: your vet's stethoscope is a crude measurement of heart health. It can't measure how serious the disease is. Your pet can have a tiny murmur and severe heart disease. A loud murmur and minimal disease. And sometimes there's no murmur at all and something major is going on.

If you have a high-risk breed like a Bengal cat or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, or your pet has a heart murmur, it's worth asking about an echocardiogram first.

A client came in recently and mentioned that some microchips can actually read your pet's temperature! 🐾

Turns out it's real. Built-in temperature sensor, no re**al thermometer needed. For the pets, cats especially, AND the humans in the room, this could be a gamechanger.

I think this should be something pet parents can use at home too. Why wait until your pet is at the vet to find out they're running a fever?

Your vet isn't getting rich off your pet's prescriptions. In fact, it might be costing them.

Most people never think about what happens on the other side of a prescription request, but I want to pull the curtain back on pharmacies and pet prescriptions.

When a pharmacy or pet parent calls in a refill, there is a whole flow that happens behind the scenes. Pulling the chart, verifying the patient, reviewing medical history, recalculating the dose, and sometimes tracking down the guardian just to confirm the basics. That can take 15 to 20 minutes per prescription, and many of us are doing this 5 to 10 times a day or more.

It is one of those tasks that quietly adds up, and it is a big reason why the pharmacy you choose for your pet actually matters more than most people realize, both for your veterinary team and for your pet's safety.
