A client came in recently and mentioned that some microchips can actually read your pet's temperature! 🐾

Turns out it's real. Built-in temperature sensor, no re**al thermometer needed. For the pets, cats especially, AND the humans in the room, this could be a gamechanger.

I think this should be something pet parents can use at home too. Why wait until your pet is at the vet to find out they're running a fever?

Your vet isn't getting rich off your pet's prescriptions. In fact, it might be costing them.

Most people never think about what happens on the other side of a prescription request, but I want to pull the curtain back on pharmacies and pet prescriptions.

When a pharmacy or pet parent calls in a refill, there is a whole flow that happens behind the scenes. Pulling the chart, verifying the patient, reviewing medical history, recalculating the dose, and sometimes tracking down the guardian just to confirm the basics. That can take 15 to 20 minutes per prescription, and many of us are doing this 5 to 10 times a day or more.

It is one of those tasks that quietly adds up, and it is a big reason why the pharmacy you choose for your pet actually matters more than most people realize, both for your veterinary team and for your pet's safety.

Are Vaccines Really Lifetime Protection?

This is uncomfortable to say…
but it needs to be said.

Pet parents are being told vaccines last forever and that veterinarians are just selling snake oil.

As a holistic vet, that narrative concerns me.

Here’s the nuance:

The immune system often creates longer immunity to viruses.
It does not create equally durable immunity to bacteria and spirochetes like leptospirosis.

So when someone says:
“One vaccine and you’re done for life.”

That’s not how immunology works.

Could a young cat’s panleukopenia vaccine last many years? Possibly.
Is the rabies vaccine your 2-year-old dog received likely still protective at 10? Probably not.

When misinformation spreads, it creates fear.
And fear erodes trust.
