Society seems to be getting more polarized resulting in conflicts rather its within your family, among your friends, at work or with a stranger.

It is possible to manage conflicts better so that it does not result in hurt and division, and part of that process involves taking the time to understand each other, not necessarily agree, but understand. A big part of what we do at Kilgore is to help people understand each other and provide tools they can use for the rest of their lives to manage conflict.

THANK YOU FOR A SUCCESSFUL 2024 KILGORE GARDEN & HOME TOUR!!

Through your generosity we raised over $80,000 which is the second highest in the 24 years we have showcased fabulous gardens and homes in our community. Our sponsors played a vital part in making this a great year.

The purpose of this event serves as a backdrop in how Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center helps individuals and families navigate life's challenges. As a garden needs loving care and attention by watering, pruning, weeding, feeding nutrients and sunlight, Kilgore's therapists takes a similar approach in leveraging their behavior science experience, knowledge and understanding to help those who have mental health wellness challenges.

Next year we will be celebrating Kilgore's 25th anniversary of the Tour and we are looking for a grand event. In fact, we have already starting to plan for this big celebration.

According to the Wall Street Journal, one in five new mothers suffers from mood and anxiety disorders with a majority of women who have maternal mental-health struggles are not getting help. Obstetricians typically don't focus on it while pediatricians focus on the child. The first several months and years are difficult for new moms regardless if they are married or not. At Kilgore Counseling Center, our four women therapists know the struggles one encounters and have the training and the knowledge to help you navigate through these times. Going back to school can cause stress for many students. We have some tips to help ease their anxiety, so they start their year on the right foot!
1. Start transitioning your child's back-to-school routines a week or two before they start their first day. Habits to work on include setting a realistic bedtime and picking clothes for the next day.
2. Arrange a few playdates with peers before school starts, which can help ease the adjustment to the classroom.
3. Validate your child's worry by acknowledging that returning to school can be challenging.
4. Sleep!!! Too much screen time stimulates the mind at night when your child needs to rest. It is hard but be firm about limiting their screen time at night.
5. If there are sports or clubs at the school, get them involved in an activity.
6. It is hard to juggle your job and other responsibilities but it is really important to be there for your child when they face challenges or opportunities regardless of what else is going on.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the Tour this year. We raised over $68,000 which will help those who can't afford mental health wellness therapy. The weekend was sunny and the Board and staff can not thank our sponsors, patrons, and volunteers enough!!! We are already planning for next year and look forward to seeing you again.

Come join us for our 23rd annual Kilgore Home & Garden tour on June 10th & 11th.

This year we are featuring six gardens where sophistication and simplicity can help you with ideas about your own garden. The tour is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 and tickets can be bought online or at any of the six locations. In addition we have a raffle where you have a chance to win one of eight great prizes featuring a week stay on Fripp Island near Beaufort, South Carolina.
