Jonathan Chang, my study-brother through Dr. Wang Juyi, just interviewed me about the excavated medical texts from Laoguanshan and the acupuncture model they found there.
More to come. I'm working on a video about the implications for practitioners looking for clinical insights that can be gleaned from reflecting on the diversity of acupuncture concepts and practices throughout its long history.

This 30-minute documentary highlights the growing body of scientific evidence that acupuncture is an effective treatment for a variety of health conditions.

This requires some explanation, but you can see the general logic behind it. The tongue reveals the "ecology" of the internal organs. Like many things in Chinese Medicine, it is empirical in the sense that the correspondences have been systematized based on observations. We will discuss the "how" and the "why" in our class so that you come away with some tools you can use.

Here are some things students have said about previous classes:

TCM training with Dr. Ochs speaks directly to our bodily understanding. Her training makes comprehensible essentials of the classical Chinese tradition: no extreme ingredients or regimes, just wisdom and reasonable practice, that makes sense. No mystery or magic, but great respect for centuries of history.
- Michelle Mope Andersson D.Min., Existential Wellness Therapist, Cultural Curator

Shelley’s TCM basis course was really interesting as Shelley has such a huge experience with TCM and is a good teacher as well. I personally liked the acupressure day and the herbal day best, as we learned a lot of things that we can directly use in daily life.
- Tina, Germany

I took the TCM course and I loved every single day of it! The information was practical, accessible, and well-structured. I enjoyed working in small groups on the hands-on parts of the course like finding acupressure points and making herbal tea. I think the course is a fantastic way to start the journey of holistic health improvement.

In our class we will discuss the reasoning behind the circadian rhythms described in traditional Chinese medicine. For example, we need to sleep during wood time (11pm-3am) to allow the wood-liver network to rejuvenate. "The blood returns to the liver at night," therefore memory, learning and concentration are deeply influenced by our sleep cycles. This overlaps will what we know from neuroscience about needing sleep to convert what we have learned into long-term memories. Anyone who has acne or skin problems should try an earlier bedtime to help the skin heal through healthy "liver blood."
