New on our Youtube channel: Highlights of $400,000, G2 Lukas Classic, with 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan wearing down Disarm for a three-quarters of a length victory. Stakes namesake D. Wayne Lukas' wife, Laurie, presented the trophy in the first running of the race since Wayne's passing this summer. The race came 25 days after what would have been Wayne's 90th birthday. Laurie Lukas said her husband would have loved having a Derby winner take the race bearing his name. We also talk to trainer Kenny McPeek, who considered Wayne a father figure, and jockey Francisco Arrieta, who was filling in for injured jockey Brian Hernandez Jr.

CLAIMING CROWN DEADLINE REMINDER
Horsemen: The 2025 Claiming Crown is set for November 15 at Churchill Downs with eight races totaling $1.1 million in purses for all levels of horses on both dirt and turf. The minimum purse is $100,000 with the Claiming Crown Jewel offering a $200,000 purse. The fee is only $250 to make your horse eligible to be entered, but the DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 25. Get more info and eligibility request forms at www.claimingcrown.com.
Stakes-size purses with starter-allowance conditions for eligible horses. DON'T GET SHUT OUT! It's not too late to claim or privately purchase a horse to run.

Our Story

The Kentucky division of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association represents more than 6,000 owners and trainers in Kentucky. We are an affiliate with the National HBPA, which was established in 1940, and represents approximately 30,000 owners and trainers in 23 states and Canada. The Kentucky HBPA is governed by a board of directors consisting of owners and trainers volunteering their time and elected by the Kentucky membership every three years. The HBPA is committed to working for the betterment of racing on all levels. We are Horsemen helping Horsemen across the Commonwealth, and you can join our cause.
