Tickets for Kentucky Derby Week and Churchill Downs' 2026 spring meet go on sale at noon ET this Thursday. Opening Saturday goes back to daytime racing (presumably because Oaks Day is now Oaks Night). And for the first time in 15 years, Churchill Downs will run the Sunday after opening day - so from Saturday to Saturday, Derby Week goes from six to seven days, with only that Monday dark.

Tickets for Kentucky Derby Week and the entire Spring Meet at Churchill Downs Racetrack will go on sale Thursday at noon ET. For the first time since 2010, Churchill Downs will return its meet opener and kickoff to Derby Week to the afternoon rather than running at night under the lights as was the....

The top of the top: Huge shout-out to Brad H. Cox Racing Stable, jockey Jose Ortiz and Godolphin on winning more races (and purse earnings) than anyone at Kentucky's five thoroughbred tracks in 2025. Story includes link to standings provided to the Kentucky HBPA by Equibase Company. Brad, Jose and Godolphin 's KY crowns will be honored on Jeff Ruby Steaks Day March 21 at Turfway Park Racing & Gaming.

More escalating evidence of the increasing strength of the year-round Kentucky circuit: The composite win leaders for 2025 at the commonwealth’s five thoroughbred tracks are some of the biggest names in the world: owner Godolphin (52 wins), trainer Brad Cox (104) and jockey Jose Ortiz (152), who m...

The hardest part of training race horses is learning to understand they will come in and out of your stable/care. I’ve always loved my horses and still cheer them on when they go on to have new connections. In this story of EPIMYTHIUM, we had fairytale ending. I purchased him from his owner/breeder after he had a few starts. We had a lot of fun and a lot of success together with so many feel-good stories in between. Years later, his most recent trainer reached out this winter giving me the opportunity to purchase him back - I was so thankful for that! At no interest in racing him again, I sent Epi back to his breeder on the farm where he was born and raised so he can have a well deserved winter off before beginning his new career as a riding horse. I’m so grateful to call this boy mine again, but I know I’ll happily be sharing him with my daughter, Jayda 😄🩶

From last night's Kentucky Racing Spotlight radio with Louis Rabaut on ESPN 680 Louisville:
“Kentucky racing is the place to be right now," trainer Tommy Drury tells Louie. "The purse money is off the charts. I raced at Turfway when Turfway wasn’t the place to be. I’m all of sudden looking at these $100,000 purses and it’s like Christmas comes every day…. Whether it’s (former Kentucky Majority Floor Leader) Damon Thayer or (Kentucky House Speaker) David Osborne or the many people who thought for us to put our place back at the head of the table, we’ve been blessed.”
