This week, we're going to share 4 resolutions you can make for the new year that align with the principles in the proven 12-step program.

Here's the first recommended resolution:
Resolve to tell the truth—to yourself first. This doesn’t mean harsh self-criticism; it means regular, gentle reflection on what’s working, what isn’t, and where growth is needed. Journaling, prayer, or quiet reflection can help you notice patterns before they become problems. Honest awareness is the foundation of lasting change. This aligns most with Step 1 & 4 in the 12-Steps.

This is a screenshot from a post where we asked alumni and residents to reply sharing why they finally got help to change their life.

Seeing these raw, honest comments is exactly why our team is so deeply committed to this work. One by one, men shared the turning-point moments that led them to finally seek help… moments marked by loss, fear, regret, and exhaustion. Gut-wrenching stories of hitting rock bottom.

And yet, woven through every one of their stories is something powerful: hope.

Hope that led them to getting help from people like our team at the Beacon House. That hope changed the course of their lives.

Their words feel like a battle cry to us: a reminder to keep marching forward until hundreds more find the path to healing, sobriety, and independence. And when one man rises, it never stops with him. His home changes. His family changes. His workplace changes. His entire community feels the ripple of transformation.

As the year comes to a close, you have ONE MORE CHANCE to give before tomorrow at midnight! Your gift today will help us reach our final fundraising goal and continue offering the kind of care that makes turning points like these possible.

Thank you for standing with us in this life-changing mission. Take a moment to give here- https://beaconhouseky.org/donate/

A Message from our CEO:

After more than a decade serving as CEO of the Beacon House, I’ve seen something time and time again—the extraordinary impact of ordinary generosity.

This mission has always depended on people like you. Every milestone we’ve celebrated, every resident who has taken a courageous step toward sobriety, every life forever changed… donors have been at the heart of it. We depend on you!

As we approach the end of the year, we find ourselves just shy of reaching our fundraising goal. So I wanted to personally reach out and ask you to consider partnering with us once more.

Even a small gift from a number of you in our community will help us cross the finish line. Specifically, we need to fund a new van for our residents’ daily transportation. Your gift will also ensure we can continue to maintain our operational budget with excellence and care.

Thank you for taking a moment to hear from me. It is truly an honor to continue shining the way toward sobriety and independence for the men we serve. I’m grateful for you, and for the hope we get to share together.

With deep appreciation,
Russ Read

P.S. Our most urgent year-end need is funding for a new van—a vehicle that plays a vital role in nearly every part of the recovery journey. This van allows us to take men to job interviews, recovery meetings twice a day, counseling sessions, medical appointments, community service outings, and so much more. You can donate towards that here-

We're still collecting winter coats for some of our residents. Many of them arrived to our residential program during the summer so they don't have a lot of winter clothing. Some of them have never owned nice winter weather gear. We'd love your help!

If you have an extra coat or you just enjoy shopping for deals this time of year, feel free to drop by with your coat donation during our office hours (NOTE: our office hours will be different on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

We especially need coats in sizes large and extra large. Thanks in advance!

A mom asked her son what he wants for Christmas.
His answer: Make a donation to our resident with the biggest financial need 🌟

In the midst of busy shopping and joyful parties, there are so many people desperate for hope and healing.

Without our transitional living program, the road to recovery is far steeper and lonelier for someone struggling with substance use and sobriety.

That’s why we’re working hard to reach our year-end fundraising goal so we can continue offering this vital stage of care for every man who comes through our doors.

There’s still a little time left for you to help us this year!

This is important information everyone should know. 👇

It applies to many forms of recovery and health– but it's absolutely critical for substance abuse recovery.

Our residential aftercare program is a key part of the sobriety journey that many people skip over. Would you take 1 min of your time to review this piece of education and share it?

It could mean the difference in someone wanting to get clean versus actually staying clean and rebuilding their life!

The tradition continues!

Our guys ventured out to find the perfect tree for the Beacon House entryway. Several men even had a hand in using the saw to cut it down. These strong men then took the time to decorate it beautifully. What do you think of their tree this year?! 😊
