The Louisville Medical & Education District (LOUMED) broke ground today on the Chestnut Street Improvement Project, which aims to establish a safer, pedestrian-friendly “spine” that connects the district’s anchor institutions and enhances the daily experience for the community.

The project design features expanded sidewalks, increased tree canopy and extensive landscaping. Are we closer to curing cancer? Immunotherapies are reshaping the fight against cancer, turning the body’s own immune system into a powerful weapon against one of America’s leading killers.

Brown Cancer Center director Jason Chesney, M.D., Ph.D, tells The Lane Report that, in the past, chemotherapy might extend a patient’s life by only a few months. But with the advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors such as ipilimumab — first FDA-approved in 2011 and successfully used at UofL Health — many cancers are now becoming chronic, manageable diseases.
