Ben and Mariah want to continue to foster a relationship with our community that focuses on learning and sharing tools for healthier and happier lives! In this newsletter, we would like to share ideas that enhance your massage experience and leave you feeling well beyond the massage table.
How to get the MOST out of your
Massage
Tools to Amplify your Massage Experience and Improve Outcomes
1) Breath
Breath is a powerful tool that you can utilize during a massage session to increase relaxation and release tension. Breathing helps to improve tissue release and decrease sensitization during deep or fascial work. This is a way to be an active participtant during your massage that leads to more satisfying results.
Deep full breaths and breath sensing into various parts of your body.
If you're feeling curious about breathwork or would like some breathwork coaching during your session, let your therapist know and they will guide you.
2) Communication is Key
Your therapist wants to know what works and doesn't work for you!
Optimize your comfort by asking for what you want. We try to be mindful about checking in, but you absolutely have permission to ask for what you need. It could be for more or less pressure, the table is too hot or too cold, the face cradle position sucks, etc.
Sharing detailed medical histories helps your therapist tap into the best treatment plan for you. The more detailed your story is, the better.
3) Care Beyond the Massage Table
Providing yourself with self massage at home, hot baths, postural adjustments while sitting, walking, among other things, improves healing outcomes tremendously! Tension and trigger points need attention regularly over time to allow your body to unwind and essentially "let go" of holding patterns, reduce nerve compression and make you feel great.
Thera canes, Thera-guns, shakti mats and epsom salt soaks are some of our go-tos. There are tons of resources on the internet that guide you through using these tools. We invite you to tap into such valauble resources.
4) Be Proactive with Regular Massage
Life can be distracting and busy, which leads to us putting off our self-care until it is at critical mass and you're in pain. No shame! It happens to us too! Ben and I have to be advocates to each other for our personal massage care.
Treating pain and tension early means healing faster and more effectively.
Regular massage therapy reduces your risk of injury from exercise and well....let's be honest...using a computer. Muscle release means less tension on your tendons, greatly reducing the occurence of tears, dislocations and joint disfuntion.
5) Movement is Medicine
One of the best things we can do for ourselves is move! In a lot of ways! Diversity in training means combining a variety of practices to improve physical function and avoid repetitive injuries.
Give yourself permission to dance like a wild person in your living room!
We have awesome connections and are continuing to build out our referral network because we BELIEVE IN YOU AND YOUR HEALTH.
